Suggestion Box: Allow Selection Of Burned Item Reviews

I have a suggestion that may make burned item reviews more manageable/approachable: allow the user to select if they want to review radicals, kanji, vocab, or a combination of these. Maybe even allow for the selection of what levels to review as an option as well?

This way it easier to target specific items that one may feel are possible issues. Otherwise it can be 1000+ items (700+ for me right now) to go through and is completely random…I guess makes sense since they are burned and you should know them, but also it would be better I feel to separate burned reviews based on type (for example, what if you keep missing radicals and want to review your burned ones, but keep getting vocab).

That being said, is there a way to do this right now that I am unaware of?

Happy Learning!

Not without using scripts. If you’re willing, then WK Self-study Quiz by @rfindley can do what you want BUT NOT down to an individual item. You can select radical, kanji, and/or vocab. You can also select the Level(s) that you want to study.

@prouleau has WK Item Inspector which can do A LOT more than SSQ, but I don’t use it so I don’t know if it can go down to an individual item.

Good luck to you

Oh that’s awesome, thank you! I will look into this for sure.

I mostly wanted to separate them by radical/kanji/vocab so that does what I was looking for!
I already use the pitch scrip[t so hopefully it’s an easy install.

I will look into WK Item Inspector as well, and update here when I test a bit more (for the learners that come after, via Google haha)

Self-Study Quiz and Item Inspector can both do specific items. Use an “Exact Search” filter and enter the items you want. With a couple time items for example: “時代,時間” in either of them would make only those items appear.

Is this another script that works in conjunction with SSQ Or II? I don’t see anything in SSQ’s configuration that has this search feature.

I thought it was one of the normal filters, but it is one from the additional filter script: [Userscript] Item List Filter (for Self-Study Quiz)

It says for self study, but the filters work for both Self-Study Quiz and Item Inspector.

Exact Search is built in Item Inspector. That makes it available for SSQ al well as long as Item Inspector is installed. If you want Exact Search for SSQ but you don’t have or want Item Inspector you can get it by installing the Search Filters collection of filters.

So I installed the WK Self-study Quiz script that @DuoLingo recommended and it works perfectly, and is exactly what I am looking for. Paired with Item List Filter script that @Sylaris recommend it works perfectly for pairing down / focusing burned reviews even more.

For those googling/etc to look for a way to do burned reviews with more control: these two scripts are the way to go 100%. This was on Chrome.

Some of the icons are not rendering properly so it was hard to find settings, but buttons still work which is fine! If this happens to you try clicking the area the icons should be (see the Self-study page images). It’s an issue with my browser that I need to debug.

Resources used:
WK Self-study Quiz: [Userscript] Self-Study Quiz
Item List Filter: [Userscript] Item List Filter (for Self-Study Quiz)
Tapermonkey/Violentmonkey: Dependent on chosen browser, Self Study page has info on these so read up!
Ensure you have dev mode on and set the order of script operations set properly.
Less tech-savvy people don’t worry! If you refresh the main page on WK it will redirect you to a page on how to do it (and to install another script you need).

Thanks everyone!!! :folded_hands:

ReorderOmega is another user script that will let you do self study. You can set up filters to select only burned items (or any other SRS level) and can further filter by type (radical/kanji/vocab) and/or various other criteria, such as WK level, Joyo grade, etc.
It also has functions to let you reorder/filter your official reviews, in case you find that helpful (e.g., you can do your apprentice reviews first if you’re short on time).

I passed this along to the team! Would be a very helpful way to review the burned items.
