Thank you. I’ll check those out later.
I had the idea to get this dictionary from one of the thread in this forum, but I couldn’t remember which. Seeing the prices online plus the high delivery cost to Singapore, I decided to try my luck with BookOff if I ever had a chance to visit Japan again. In the end I brought back a small suitcase, containing JPY100-JPY110 books from BookOff, randomly chosen from some interesting topics.

Ok but now my ホリミヤ collection is basically done, and I have enough books that I don’t need to buy any for several months… right? Right?
We’ll see how well that goes for me.
If you’re on the Natively forums you’ve already seen this in the “physical media megathread” there as well as all my day to day updates along the way, but this is the final “everything I bought” photo from my recent trip to Japan, where I spent quite a lot of time in Book-Off and other bookshops from Tokyo to Sapporo:
53 books total; if I’d been counting up as I went along I would probably have picked up one last book to fill in the corner space
Picked these up at HPB today
I like big books and I cannot lie. (模倣犯 上巻 is 721 pages long while the 下巻 is 698.) (Noooo I still haven’t read my other 宮部みゆき novels aside from ステップファザー・ステップ.) (I definitely recommend that one though, it’s great. A criminal gets reverse-adopted by a pair of identical twin middle school boys after falling off their roof.)
Those covers look amazing.
Just got back from a trip to New York and splurged on some books!!!
I’m sad there weren’t more Pluto volumes, but I got two from Book-Off! I tempered my expectations for a Book-Off in the US vs in Japan, but I was still left disappointed

All the rest I got at Kinokuniya!! So all pretty pricey, but I really wanted them so it was worth it I got the book club book (just in time!!) お探し物は図書室まで. Excited to start it today! Also got all of (except for one that I’m gonna buy in Japan) Gen Hoshino’s books/essays!! Already started reading いのちの車窓から
And lastly, Natsumensanchi’s artbook, Onlines! I’M SO HAPPY THEY HAD IT!! I was worried they didn’t have it and was looking for a good long while, and then gasped out loud when I saw it haha. All the artwork is so amazing, and I love the book itself! With the binding it has, you can lay all the pages flat!! So it’s really great for all the artwork that span both pages.
Which club is reading that?
The IBC just started it
Well now I’m in another book club I guess.
I just started 文庫版 魍魎の匣 | L40?? and discovered that the publisher included this cool book specific bookmark with a picture of a 魍魎 with a 匣:
The book I’m reading on my commute to work if the bus driver is not recklessly driving. Haha
One of many 100-110 yen books I bought from book-off or other secondhand bookstore.
Been a good few months since my last book buy but since the new Phantom Busters volume has just come out I decided to treat myself to a few others whilst I was at it
だよね!
Usually one small suitcase for me.
How did you know? I bought a suitcase from donqi. Together with the N1 learning materials and the gifts I brought back, the suitcase was full
I usually fly to Japan without checkin baggage with only 2 hand-carry bags and coming back with extra one 20kg checkin baggage containing books and gifts.
So yes, I suspected and knew so.
Nice haul! I read 6 of them already
(they are 獣の奏者1+2, 夜市、すべてがFになる、海辺のカフカ)
There should be some book clubs somewhere in these forums for all of them, feel free to use them and even post your thoughts!
Here is my bookshelf
Here is the contents
Top Left: Kanken and JLPT textbooks, miniature yoji dictionaries.
Middle Left: Advanced JLPT and Kanken textbooks, I’m currently using these right now as I am preparing for exams. Some of these books has a lot of vocabulary so I can grasp them easily, also some additional books and dictionaries
Bottom Left: Some files as well as monolingual dictionaries
Top right: Textbooks and workbooks. (These have a lot of knowledge stuff and a lot of information gathering stuff), science, since I am still a student I can use this to my advantage. My mom was a hoshuko teacher so I was able to get these books. Very interesting
Middle and Bottom right: Some novels and notebooks. I will be focusing on non light novels but 小説
Allow me to go into detail.
I am reading a lot of 国民知識百科 on a lot of topics. I’m doing a lot of research. As of right now I focus on nonfiction and philosophy as I want to use Japanese practically in my real life. I’m a student still so this stuff comes in handy seriously for the future. My grandpa himself owned this before he died several years ago and my grandma let me take this for me to read back in my homecountry in America.
