When I visited Japan I had a duffel bag in my suitcase. I then decanted a lot of my clothes into the duffel and filled the suitcase with books.
I just threw away my clothes ![]()
I intentionally brought worn-out clothes, which I should throw away anyway, but couldn’t make myself to do it. It was easier to part with them if it was for the luggage space.
Dang, I’m real sorry to hear.
I can still see the table underneath; clearly there’s an issue here. Hopefully you can find more books to solve that issue in the future. ![]()
I spy さんかく窓の外側は夜 ![]()
tbf there are more books that I didn’t share here, but I already put them on the shelves
I need more shelves/storage for these ![]()
also planning to make another order when the natively bl and gl clubs finally pick
Ohhh nice, you were able to get a physical copy of はなものがたり!
I really enjoyed the movie and my will against buying books is weak lol
Yep! I think BOOKOFF’s only let me down for Ouran High School Host club. Even though I’ve got it all now, I still check BOOKOFFs for it and I haven’t seen it at any others. Just the one lol
Kinukuniya in I think Shinjuku has a phenomenal selection. All of the books I’ve been missing from trips to other stores they had.
Very nice collections some people here have! ![]()
You have to tell me how the books are.
Just rewatched the movie two days ago and it really is a quite good movie, though it seems a lot of story is obviously missing. Some things were just not explained enough.
Also i’m not sure about the art style compared to the movie. From what i have seen of the anime and graphics on the internet both characters look quite “rough” not sure how to say it ![]()
I just have a specific type of manga art that i like, more the shoujo manga type ![]()
bold of you to assume I can go to Tokyo that easily
I’ll make a point of going to Shinjuku’s bookstores next time though. I’m hoping to spend a week in Tokyo next trip.
We had a watch party for it in the movie club. Although I think discussions about the pick may have been on Natively. ![]()
I liked what the movie did for ghosts and the finale. I skimmed the manga’s final volumes since I was curious and it seems like it has a very different finale. I’m not sure if I saw a ghost or not. The style of the manga seems very plain. Nothing really stood out to me as looking particularly good or bad. I probably won’t read it for a while though because I’m trying to catch up on various book clubs and also my own goals for JoJo.
Ah, my bad! I assumed you actually live in Tokyo
.
Wait, fr or kidding? I thought I complained enough about living in the inaka in POLLs
You can be in the inaka and still be in Tokyo. Like, Oku-Tama. Or the Ogasawara Islands. ![]()
Ah, I’ve heard people like to hike the mountains in(? near?) Oku-Tama. Aren’t those islands uninhabitated though?
Either way, I have to make a day of getting anything anime/manga related. We have gatchapon in town and bookstores that don’t seem to have much stock turnover lol
Jokes on me - I missed it in POLLs, because I wasn’t there then.
By the way, do people post their online bookshelves as well? I can share my latest picks from Booklive.
I feel like my complaints are ongoing but if you skip overnight mesages like most do, then you’d definitely miss it.
Check the 2nd post ![]()
Latest haul from cdjapan. They stung me for “VAT” though, which is wrong since books are zero rated for UK VAT, and I didn’t notice because I wasn’t paying attention during checkout. I put in a customer support query but I’m not optimistic about getting that 1700 yen back. I think maybe going for “VAT prepayment upon purchase” rather than “VAT payment on delivery” was my mistake. This turns out to be noted buried in question 8 in their FAQ about customs duties where they basically say “we don’t yet apply the right rate of tax for reduced-rate items”. So I think that’s pretty shady on their part: if you’re doing a cdjapan order watch out…
(EDIT: they did refund me, see later post in this thread.)
