These should be all the ones I got recently:
What’s the one in the top left? That definitely looks like Ginko from Mushishi, but what I can make of the title is something else.
It’s the 蟲師 特別編 日蝕む翳. It’s a 100-page, two-part story. I stumbled upon it on eBay. I haven’t read it yet
Medium has a manga version. (I want to read it!)
Got an amazon japan order recently.
It was one of those boxes that opens from the side and the first book I saw was suuuuper damaged so I was angry there was no protection. But it turns out to have been a book I didn’t order?! The other books were fine thankfully. All the manga I got happened to be wrapped in plastic so they were in perfect condition. The other books had some slight bending to their covers but they were fine as well. Phew! Looking forward to reading them. ![]()
On the one hand, it has great reviews, on the other, it seems to be a kind of self help book. Very different than your other purchases!
Noo, that poor book D: Amazon (both US and JP) is generally terrible at shipping books, I’ve noticed, like zero attempts made to keep them from getting bent or torn - usually the damage isn’t quite that bad, thankfully, but at least one in every order is damaged somehow
They literally just throw everything in a box and hope for the best.
Wow, it does have good reviews! Best seller too. Interesting. Definitely not my usual type of book! Looks like some kind of blend of self help and auto biographical? Flipping through it, I can see references to other stuff.
I looked him up just now and I’ve never heard of him. Seems like he’s an author and actor. He’s got a pretty famous picture book it seems, so maybe he’s an artist too? Seems his stuff has never been translated into English which is probably why I’ve never heard of him.
One day maybe I’ll flip through it but it’s probably too hard for me right now.
Gives me time to find his other stuff I suppose!
Ugh, yes. They’re terrible! I only use amazon us as a last resort. Amazon japan tends to be the cheapest option for me to buy new japanese books though so I keep buying from them every few months despite the packaging to keep up with my more current series.
One time, they put like ten books in BAG packaging with a flimsy piece of cardboard that I guess was supposed to keep it flat on the bottom?? The books were OK but all of their obi were torn up to shreds.
I haven’t ordered physical books since the Haikyuu manga ended and has been happy with using Bookwalker (shipping is expensive
). But then I decided to join the adventures of the next pick in the Advanced book club which is Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. It is not available in digital form, so here I am with a bunch of new books.
Also I like Spy x Fam <3
Helps that the covers are amazing.
Why don’t you read with us? Or are you way ahead of us (currently on volume 7)?
I’ve only read the first volume :3! (Was for free on Bookwalker.) I see that the club is currently reading at a nice pace of one chapter a week. Don’t know when I’m going to continue this series (summer is getting busier than I thought), but I’ll make sure to check out the threads as I go ^^ Thanks for inviting me! c:
More books!
The 元ヤンパパとヒツジ先生 よつば are the third installment in the series (it’s a single volume, then a single-vol sequel, and then this 4-vol sequel), but CDJapan didn’t have either of the first two, and I didn’t know if they’d still have the limited edition of よつば 4 (includes the 元ヤンパパとひなたくん on the bottom row) if I held off, so I went ahead and got them. I’ll probably end up getting the first two from Manga Republic later this summer, but also it depends how expensive they are on there… I’ll probably wait until they have a coupon.
Oooh I enjoyed 火車! Hope you like it. It’s an interesting look at 90s Japan. 宮部みゆき loves using complex social issues to drive plots ![]()
I hope so too! Dunno when I’ll get around to reading it though. I also have 東京下町殺人暮色 which I picked up a while back and haven’t started yet either
