Shinkoku - Single-page site to view your critical items at a glance

Just checked it out… and oouuuch, do I have a lot. Thanks for the site, plan on studying a lot. Bookmarked!
(So glad your post reminded me of the word “stellar”… How could I have forgotten? TT_TT)

I just noticed something - the Critical Items API returns all items, which also includes burned items. This means that burned items will always show up (because they’re burned and you never have a chance to affect its percentage). There’s currently no way to filter these out without making additional API calls, which I want to avoid since it’s not practical. I’ll probably bug Viet a bit about this.

maybe I should revive them xD.

Can you also put anchor tags to easily jump to their WK pages? That would be a neat addition I think.

This is what I was thinking :P

And I second the desire for anchor tags :))

Thanks for all the work!

I had no idea I could resurrect burned items. Must have slipped under my radar. I’ll probably do that with my own burned items that are on this list.

I’ll be adding links for the items to go to their respective WaniKani page soon.

Quick update: I added a modal with additional information and a link to the respective WaniKani page when clicking on any item. The modal will display as much info that WaniKani provides in the API call for critical items (so sorry, hoovard - WaniKani doesn’t return the user-defined reading / meaning info in this API call), but since it has the link, you should be able to get all the info you need!

Cool site! I have a lot more than I thought I did. Yikes…     Now that you have the modal with additional information, maybe it would be helpful to have an option to hide the hiragana and meaning from the initial list? That way one could use it as a sort of instant review flashcard list, and then click to see the modals to see if they’re right.  Anyway, it’s just a thought. I’m amazed and appreciative of the things that people develop and share FOR FREE with the WaniKani community. Thanks!

I have two. Thought it would be way more. Both recent items. Guess I’ll just sit here and look smug.

That sounds like a neat idea! I'll look into implementing this functionality down the road.

Nice work! Crisp and clean! I’ll be using this ALOT!

Heya, nice site indeed… I like it.

And I seem to only have 3 items in critical condition (80% was yours I believe?) of which one is the one kanji I bombed one dark night when I was totally out of it and answered 6/7 times incorrectly in one review (still dont know if I should laugh or cry about that, but well…) and the other two are part of my newest current level kanji collection… Could’ve done worse.

the sad thing is, i think i've done that before, and i don't even have the excuse that i was out of it. there were like two similar vocab that i couldn't tell apart for the life of me and i kept guessing wrong when either one came up.

OK, well. I have 725 items.

Very cool! Thank you

Well, it happens to the best of us, I guess now you're over those twins, right? ;○)

Going to have to bump this thread:

god, i hope so. maybe they're waiting for the burn review or somewhere and then they'll show up and then i'll fail them and then i'll have to suffer through them again.

yay pessimism

33 critical items??? what the heck
last i checked i had like 5.

Oh God, this is the absolute worst, knowing that the item is about to be burned and I screw up. THE PRESSURE!

I ran Shinkoku a couple days ago, no critical items reported. Yet I have untold number of items that are seemingly permanently mired in apprentice-land. On inspection I noticed two common cases -
1) I get the reading (or meaning) correct 100% and frequently  bungle the meaning (or reading).
In this case it seems a poor RC or MC score keeps the item in Apprentice, yet the average of the two is >= 80%
so Shinkoku doesn’t report a problem. I would like to be alerted if either MC or RC is < 80%. Perhaps some minimum
number of reviews would be required before reporting.
 2)  MC and RC are both (currently) >= 80%, yet the item is still in Apprentice after many reviews. I just found an item
that was unlocked in level 3, and now I’m level 10 and it is still in Apprentice, after 35 (meaning and  reading                     combined) reviews ! Perhaps Shinkoku could report items that have been reviewed N(=2,3,4…) times more than the minimum number required to reach the item’s current SRS level ?
But I am just a noob, and maybe should wait patiently for SRS to work it’s magic. That’s fine too
