When forums auto-lock threads after a set amount of inactivity, I imagine it’s simply to avoid people stumbling on and necroing a long-dead conversation with people who in many cases aren’t even around anymore. At least, that’s been the reason at other forums I’ve used.

I’m pretty sure corpses can’t consent regardless of how old they are. People should just stop necroing altogether.
It’s not like we’re actually going to run out of thread id’s anytime soon. Yaaaay for big numbers.
