Something very screwy is going on with WK. This morning, I did reviews like normal, but after probably 30ish reviews, the kanji 搬 came up for review and I entered “transportation” for the meaning, but it marked it wrong as it expected “transport”. I decided to just end the session immediately without finishing it off so that the wrong answer wouldn’t count, as reviews only register once you’ve answered both meaning and reading. It was only Apprentice 1, so missing it would have barely been a setback, but it’s the principle of the thing.
However, the really weird part is that it is now showing that I did zero reviews today, even though I very definitely did a bunch of reviews this morning. In fact, I even unlocked six lessons today, which definitively proves that I not only did a bunch of reviews, but I specifically guru’d three new things this morning.
I just can’t understand what happened. It seems like there must be a bug in the Wanikani API, but how could it possible not know about reviews, and yet simultaneously have registered the reviews towards advancing items and unlocking lessons?
Breaking off a review session in the middle in order to avoid counting an “unfair” miss is something I’ve done many times in the past (although it has been a long time since I bothered) and this has never happened before. Reviews where you only answered one part won’t count (that’s the whole point), but reviews where you already answered both reading and meaning will be counted even if you stop doing reviews later. In fact, it seems like they did count in this case, because it unlocked new lessons and everything. It’s just that the Wanikani api is inexplicably lying about the reviews.
