Same kanji part explained differently

I became a bit confused today when I learned 究 (research). To me the top part of the Kanji looks exactly the same as the one in 空 (sky). Yet WK says it’s the “hole” radical in the former case and “roof” plus “legs” in the other. Is my font accidentally showing me things as identical that really aren’t quite, or is this somewhat inconsistent?

The are the same element. They are both the version of 穴 that appears at the top of kanji. But the way that WK structures the mnemonics stories can vary from time to time. More so than historically accurate kanji compositions, they are aiming for memorable stories.
