Sailormoon 🌙 — Complete!

The discussion threads will always be available in case you decide to read the series later =) You can also poke in and see what grammar’s being talked about before then if you’d like.

The other option is the “learn to swim by diving into the deep end of the pool” option where you learn the grammar as you read along (either looking it up or asking in the threads). This is a massive time commitment up front, but by the end of the first volume you’d be familiar with much of the basic grammar the author uses.

You make some good points! I’ll think about what to do and then see about acquiring the manga in Japanese if I decide to join in.

Really, from what I’ve seen so far, the grammar is mostly very colloquial stuff that you’re unlikely to see on N-anything. There’s a lot of weird stuff to slog through, but I don’t think the number of grammar points from formal writing you know is likely to affect the difficulty one way or the other.

Thanks for letting me know! I still have to go about getting the series in Japanese, so it’ll be a while before I can read it (especially since I recently splurged on the WaniKani lifetime subscription), but I’ll definitely be peeking at everyone’s progress.

Hmm, seems like perfect timing for me. I will do my best to join in, but my schedule can be erratic, so no guarantees. But, looking at just the first two sample pages you posted, it looks hilarious and I’m actually looking forward to at least starting it. Gotta start reading real Japanese somewhere, right? Might as well be a classic fun manga!

Unfortunately, I don’t really have the funds to purchase multiple volumes right now (and I’m not having a lot of luck with finding anything online), so I may not be able to participate! I will try to jump in later if things happen to work out. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

The thread for Act.1 is now live. New thread creation after this will depend on how heavy conversation is or isn’t in the latest thread.

When a new thread is not created, I’ll post a “starting next act discussion” type post at the end of the current thread. I’m in California, so we’ll have to see what works better for starting a new week’s discussion on Saturdays starting the 11th, whether it be Friday morning or Friday evening my time.

I want to join but I’m really trying to save money and not buy literally every eBook that interests me…

That seems like a smart decision. Good luck, you can do it! :muscle:

Isn’t it free right now? I forgot the deadline, but someone posted about it in this thread.

I know the feeling. I just got myself a mortgage, so I need to tighten my (already sparse) spending to ensure I can pay it off quickly. (If I regrow store-bought lettuce, I can save enough for at least one e-book a month!)

The first chapter was free, but it looks like it’s no longer available on the site I use (Kobo). Not certain about other e-book sites.

Off-topic but wow, nice!

...

My dream is to start a bit of gardening on my balcony this year. :star_struck: No flowers or plants for aesthetic reasons but some vegetables.
How do you regrow the lettuce? …do we have a gardening thread here on Wanikani?

I’m glad the Kanzenban versions contain 7 chapters each, I think. So at least I don’t have to buy a volume each month.

I missed the word “if” (“If I…”), but I’ve done some experiments, with success. The place I’m staying right now I lack two things for the lettuce regrowing: 1) enough sunlight, and 2) nutrients for the lettuce. Once I’ve moved next month, I’ll definitely take advantage of abundant access to sunlight. Here’s a video anyone interested in regrowing store-bought lettuce may want to check out. It works without the nutrients, but the result is much less satisfactory. Maybe I should do a campfire thread on growing one’s own vegetables at home after I move =)

I’m glad the e-book version is cheaper than the physical. Wait, I actually own the kanzenban series physical already… I get more mileage out of digital, but I guess I have physical to fall back on if my reading budget accidentally goes to other series one month.

Arrived just now. I can finally start reading, too (and probably fail).
Looking forward to seeing you in the other thread ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ

@ChristopherFritz Might want to rename the link for the discussion thread as the first one now covers act 1 and 2.

Also:
Thanks for starting this club. I probably wouldn’t be reading as much of Sailormoon right now if you hadn’t. So I wouldn’t have realized how enjoyable it is. :3
