Hi. First time poster, so apologies if I post in the wrong place/format etc.
So, WK tells me that 人口 (population) and 人工 (artificial) both use on-yomi じんこう reading.
Does anyone know if there is any difference in how the readings for these two words are spoken? For example, is there any difference in pitch accent, or they just the same?
I probably don’t actually need to know, but now it’s occurred to me to wonder, it’s going to nag away at the back of my mind.
No difference. In terms of spoken/listening, just like read and reed and red in English. Context is key. “What do you like to read? I read a book about a man that ate a red reed”.
Besides the extension most Japanese-Japanese dictionaries have the pitch accent information. At one point you will eventually be using J-J dictionaries. This is from the J-J dictionary that comes in the Mac OS.
