I learn new kanji: 佩はく = to affix (a sword to one’s hip)​. Same word as 履く, 着く and 穿く, i.e. to wear something on your lower body.

I usually buy used manga from bookoff because it’s easiest for me given lack of other options, for stuff like Conan that means 100 yen a volume but stuff like horimiya is still 450-500ish yen used each when I buy it which sucks…
Still new to manga buying tho, so is there anywhere else you’d recommend looking? I haven’t really looked into buying used copies online so don’t know if that’s an option

i’m waiting for some kind of mythical bookwalker sale. i doubt they’ll discount the whole series, but i can probably get the lot at 50% coinback at some point. Especially if they do a boxset at 20% off.

…I will have to calculate how much I lose by already owning 3 volumes, but eh

BOOKOFF’s best in general for online. You can get lucky with Mercari or Surugaya sometimes though.

If you ever make it out in person, Manga Soukos usually have the best prices. None of them seem to have online stores though.

Sorry for the confusion, I do live out here, I mean going to my local bookoff store which is pretty close to me.
My town and the next one over doesn’t have anything which I’ve been able to work out as a second hand entertainment store which is big enough to have the stuff I want, but having now just looked at some of the prices at the one closest to me (which is quite a trek), it is actually considerably cheaper, so I’ll have to just take a trip out there when I get time and buy stuff in bulk to save a load of money. Thanks for letting me know though, I didn’t realize there was such a big price discrepancy.

Nice! I’m glad I can help. If you go on a trip btw Manga Souko change name I think as you go north. But they still have the brown color scheme and otter mascot. Those and Mercari are the cheapest options for sure.

Brb, let me just take 3 working days to recover from finishing 君の名は。.

The best part, like the film, is when they meet properly for the first time on the mountain. That being said, I was playing the soundtrack while getting through the last 30 pages, and right as I got to the second to last page, goosebumps flaring and all, the piano riff from Again to Goshintai (also known as the single best song from the film, I will fight anyone who dares to suggest otherwise) started, and I think I was on the verge of death from the emotional trauma being inflicted on my psyche. Do yourself a favour and put the book on your list if you love the film (maybe only if you love the film though). It complements it and extends it and gives you that same feeling in a different format.

I also read some ホリミヤ and got to the bit where they start going out. I guess this is it - the perfect reading day. There’s nowhere to go but down from here. It was nice while it lasted.

Time to curl myself into a ball and ponder life while failing to sleep I think.

Happy lunar new year to those who celebrate!

Last week was a good reading week for me.

I started reading a new manga titled A Sign of Affection prompted by the ABBC voting period. It was a tie, but unfortunately, it’s going to be read after the other winner. So while waiting, i decided I’ll read through as much as I can with limited lookups. Just sort of familiarizing myself with the text and hopefully I can join the actual club when it starts up. I’m happy to say that I’m 18% through it and pretty much understand most or got the meaning through context!

Also as I’m posting this, I finally finished The Jam Maker!!

Another faster-progress-than-usual session but only because the current scene was familiar and heavily featured the character with the (for me) easiest speech pattern whose route I picked for my 1st time going through this VN precisely because of that.
Tomorrow’s reading likely won’t be as quick as I will pick an option I haven’t read before.

two chapters of 3月のライオン and finished that arc! it’s a little abrupt but i get what it was going for. also finished the main bit of psycho-pass (part 1 anyway)! really easy to charge through the last bit (even with makishima monologuing), it has good pacing. just a side story of sorts left and then i’m done!

January 28th - Home post

Lots of reading today! One chapter each of 恋より青く, 徒然日和 and ふらいんぐうぃっち, a couple of pages of 銭天堂 and a little Aokana. Manga, novel and VN. Just the right difficulty level so I can feel challenged and still understand most of what I’m reading. Studying and having fun at the same time, who could ask for more!

This book is turning out not my style. I don’t like the author’s writing style, I don’t like the characters, I don’t care about all the magic stuff and I’m not a fan of the illustrations. Currently 2/5 stars.

I’m still curious - is this a stand-alone or supposed to be the first in a series? I will read on to find out.
