I want to actually read books again! I’ll have to keep a book at work until after the move so I don’t have to worry about losing it

I always say that my ultimate goal of learning Japanese is to be able to read lots of books, and then I don’t do much reading. So I want to work on changing that.

My goal this year is to read 12 books. Maybe I’ll make it, fingers crossed. Also, I won’t limit myself to just Japanese, because my sidetable stack is getting quite tall… At least they’re books about Japan.

I’ll participate as usual! I’ve been tracking well at reading every day, even if it’s sometimes a very small read. I’m less good at referencing my home post though, and hopeless at filling in what I’m reading here.

あけおめ!day one let’s go! keep plodding along with march comes in like a lion, and my other read is the psycho-pass novelisation. being familiar with the material is helpful, but it’s not as technical as i was expecting (thankfully). i’m gonna put gaiden in there for now, but i genuinely have no idea when i’m getting back to it. next week? i’ll edit my next eng book in later

today’s nhk article was this one (kind of cheating, it’s mostly pictures) plus the entries on 単位(たんい)で and (たん)に in aDoAJG

Starting the year with a little manga! 2 chapters of ひとりぼっちの○○生活 and one chapter of ふらいんぐうぃっち volume 1. I’m thinking of maybe trying to read the whole ふらいんぐうぃっち series this year. We’ll see! January 1st is always a day when everything seems possible…

I’m not particularly happy I didn’t get through more ぼっち, but rather than trying to convince myself to read more I read some easier stuff instead.

Now that I’ve finished my goals from last year, I can finally start reading with the Saikawa & Moe book club. The penultimate book in the series (9 of 10). Since I’m using bookwalker to read this book I don’t know how many characters there are in the whole book, but apparently the book is 700 pages long. Finished 2 of 3 parts of the first week.

Also read a ton of my favorite scenes from the Honzuki series. Might continue tomorrow because I’m not done yet.

Uh, I guess I forgot to actually start this yesterday, which is a good start, but anyway. I’ve read two more segments of Case 4 of 逆転裁判 over the last two days

January 1st!

Chapter 2 of Bloom Into You today.
I’m enjoying it so far, and pleased that I’m finding it pretty smooth to read straight away sine I usually struggle a bit with the first few chapters of a new series while I get used to the writing style!

Done with my first Japanese reading session of 2025! Still trying to figure out my preferred setup for the grammar lookups for these reading sessions but I think it should be a bit more streamlined by the end of this month.

Just want to point out that due to me reading a physical version of this VN, I can’t provide accurate progress numbers except for the number of text boxes. The characters listed are a roughly estimated average per text box and I will use them to loosely track my progress.

Title Chapter Time Progress
:leaves: 薄桜鬼 真改 風華伝 :cherry_blossom: Prologue 15 min 17 text boxes / ~425 characters

薬屋のひとりごと 3: 12.04% → 25.01%, 3h54m

It was a nice day with plenty of reading time. It is a shame that holidays are no more, and tomorrow is back to work.

During last year’s winter challenge, which was the first and only one I participated in, I finished reading my first novel. It was a great milestone for me. Later in the year, I finished one another and 4 light novel volumes, alongside some manga. This year I want to read many more books, and since this challenge gives me an inspirational boost, I plan to participate throughout the whole year.

One of my wishes is to read all volumes of 薬屋. However, I might get tired of it at some point, and I also want to participate in WK book clubs, so I don’t state it as my goal. My goal this year is to read at least 300 hours (compared to 273 hours last year). 頑張ります!

It -is- midnight here already, but gonna cram some challenges before going to sleep!
I will put myself a bit out of my comfort zone by reading something challenging, but also slowly, just one page a day!

I didn’t get to read what I wanted, but at least I could find most of my online books on Bookwalker, which I haven’t logged into for over a year. XD

The sad realization that I couldn’t read コンビニ人間 as smoothly (read: at all) dawned on me and that hurt given all the progress I made 2 years ago. But that was a good eye-opener that I need to go back to doing my reviews, even if it means resetting to a lower level.

What I did manage to read was はらぺこあおむし to my kids which I usually just read in English. I also got a set of books geared to 0-3 year olds (~歳の絵本) which basically covers the same things they learn in 保育園 like how to brush your teeth, animals (introducing animal body parts from 3), age-appropriate stories and songs, etc. I read a story from the 3 year old book and the 1 year old book before bedtime.

I meant to read the last volume of Fruits Basket after they went to bed, but I fell asleep too.
