Love having different level reads, feels so good to zoom through Goosebumps at the end of the day :running_man: :dash: Also my parsing of the words spelled with hiragana has weirdly improved a lot by reading stuff with more kanji. Or maybe I just know more words now.

Today, I got to read one of my easy books that I didn’t finish in 2024. Such as pleasure as I’m now over halfway through.

I love this line:
さよなら、友情。こんにちは、孤独。

I’ve been finding this as well - I think it’s really a case of you know when words are used in what situations and so you’re better primed to expect them. Maybe?

Yes, I agree. Any amount of reading is valuable learning and practice.

Had a bit of a frustrating day yesterday, due to real life issues, so didn’t end up posting. :frowning: I couldn’t bring myself to expend the energy to read 名探偵コナン, but I was able to convince myself to read the first chapter of Major volume 5, which is much less dense and thus takes a lot less time and energy!

And I was feeling much better today, so I went back to コナン for another chapter, bringing me to about 2/3 of the way through the volume. Hoping I can finish the volume by the end of the week!

5/1 4 pages Spy Family light novel (finished short novel 1), 9 pages 約束のネバーランド, aDoIJG わけがない and やる(1)

6/1 6 pages 舞妓さんちのまかないさん (finished chapter 64)

7/1 6 pages 約束のネバーランド

Struggling with lack of sleep for last few days, which together with work has resulted in less reading than planned.

Sunday I was tired after hunting for the cat all evening, but managed a bit. Other two days I was only able to manage a token effort.

Main aim next few days is to finish the Intermediate grammar dictionary or get as close as possible to doing so. It looks like the advanced one doesn’t start too badly so I hope I can finish this one first!

I’ve been forgetting to update and apparently doing minimal reading. I am genuinely confused. Although the 6th had an incredibly text heavy page all about nazis, so that was exhausting to read.

I’m going to do a lot more reading today though. I have about 20 grammar questions left before I read.

8th jan :snowflake:

managed two chapters of 3月のライオン’s yap man this time, so i’m calling that a success. made good progress on psycho-pass too! aside from once much earlier, it’s not deviated from the show much, if at all (not that i was expecting it to). nice to have some inner monologue and expansion of stuff the show kind of skims over tho.

Now I’m up to page 468/777 of 理由 by 宮部みゆき, kind of mixed feelings about the writing style because I like the exposition and attention to detail but sometimes there’s just too much detail especially the chapter about the 競売物件 that easily could have been condensed into a couple of pages. Thanks to the “educational” parts, the parts that actually move the plot forward feel kind of a breeze to read in comparison.

Ok, we’re a week into the challenge and I’ve actually managed to read every day! Here’s my beautiful, not formatted log!

Yeah, I think it’s a case of being better able to expect the words used in a sentence, suddenly the hiragana-only parts of sentences in these children’s books aren’t as confusing as they used to be because I can kind of ‘see’ the word borders better.

I feel this so much. I think there have been two chapters where I was like “this could have been 2-4 paragraphs and I would have gotten just as much valuable info from it”.
Have you read her before? Some of her books are worse about info dumps like this than others

ふらいんぐうぃっち 2 plus a little Aokana again today. Reading ふらいんぐうぃっち makes me so happy! And even more so when I find kanji and vocab in the text that I learned this week on Wanikani!

One of those where it would have been more of a surprise if not for knowing a second volume exists and therefore the rescue was doomed to fail.

Disclaimer

申し訳ないけど the only thing that I read (no matter the language) with genuine interest is fanfiction. All of those are from カラオケ行こ / ファミレス行こ fandom, so consider yourself warned. They are listed in chronological order (the one I am currently reading comes last). As they vary in length, sometimes it takes me a couple of days to get through a single one~

Structure

I shall report once a month on my progress + I update this post daily to keep myself motivated. At the end of it, I will also share my favourite ff~ I might also continue through March if I am not dying with university at that point.

  • Another two (short) chapters to wrap 四つ子。This series is probably my favourite of the kids’ books I’ve read so far, especially when it gets Big Emotions. My only thing is the main character doesn’t actually seem to do too much and is more of a passive observer, but they address that in the book somewhat.
  • Another chapter of How Do We Relationship, might read another today. Still pretty breezy.

You read this quickly! I think I’ll listen to these as an audiobook at some point.

I think the nice thing is the book’s ‘gimmick’ isn’t crafts or food or whatever, it’s about the character and her sisters and their relationships, so it all feeds comfortably into the same nexus, and even though it’s using relatively simple words it feels very intensely nonetheless.
