I didn’t keep track of how many quests I did today, but I think only 4 were story. In any case, I’ve found a reliable way to get ひらめきのジュエル: talk to a researcher down a well only accessible by Starflight, fight Elusid, and report back. They are attainable from Rank F grotto chests, but I really only seem to get them from the chests outside the Bowhole, and even then I’ve gotta be lucky.
I also got two legacy boss maps (Orgodemir and Malroth), though I haven’t even looked at them yet. Honestly, I’m kind of intimidated. (Maybe more than just “kind of.”)

If Nine doesn’t know that, it’s because y’all don’t teach it. Like, that’s part of your job as elders: not just to lead but to educate. How can someone know something that’s never talked about? Like with Corvus! There’s a memorial for him, and he’s “never to be forgotten,” but that’s all just tripe: it’s forbidden to speak of him. How is someone or something supposed to be remembered if the knowledge isn’t being passed on??
(And then ofc there’s the whole “being unable to act against a superior” thing, which includes defending oneself. Celestrian society is so messed up. Normally when you’re only given the illusion of choice and not actually allowed to say no, that’s because that’s just how DQ is, but with Nine it actually makes in-universe sense. That conditioning ain’t just gonna go away just like that, even if it is a human asking/ordering.)
Y’know, I’m p sure I’ve heard of Horatio Hornblower before, although I’m not sure I knew he was a fictional character.

Started reading 創る庭 again. This is a relatively new series with only one volume out so I’d like to catch up with it and read it as it releases. It follows two sisters as they take over the house manager duties of their grandmother’s シェアハウス, which turns out to be a household of amateur artists perhaps?? I’m not sure if this will fall into yuri romance territory or if this is gonna be more of a cute girls doing cute things series, but with these absolutely swoonworthy characters I’m not sure that I care:
Anyway there’s some cool character design inlcuding body types and tomboyish styles that are not often represented in this genre! Plus the mangaka has written quite a lot of yuri in the past so I have high hopes here.
I decided to start this one over though I’d already read 30ish pages last month. I remember my progress being choppy and felt foggy on the details, and I’m glad that I went back and approached it again! Somehow I remembered the term 管理人 which is cool! And I also remembered how annoying it is that the the character names don’t have furigana…
How are you watching these? With/without subtitles? I’m not brave enough to face video without English subtitles yet…
Haha I think I said something simliar when I read this. It’s pretty episodic and though there are some slight overarching plot elements, there’s not a lot of plot drive to keep ya coming back. I did end up reading the second volume as well and I don’t regret it, but if you’re not into the characters then there’s plenty of other stuff!
I see 絶対 absolutely everywhere so I bet you’ll get used to it!
My con teppie and song practice came to my rescue…but I was not prepared for the hiragana dump 
Its actually more difficult to read hiragana than kanjis if I am bieng honest 
You will probably feel a bit disoriented when those 2 kids talk 
Though I must say its really good for practice if you are watching with japanese subs and audio

I started playing Omega Labyrinth Life in japanese but it’s too easy. While the characters are fun and the story is interesting, it’s just that the game is a dungeon crawler which is just not my thing.
After that I played more detective games. The police arrived and we started going around searching for evidence to solve the case. I already think I know who the murder is. If you pay attention what’s happening you will notice certain things. The dude we play as phoned Masao. Masao decided it would be helpfull to ask the detective for help.

I ended the day at 50.3% (of an expected 50.3%) of my yearly reading goal. Time to start getting beyond that to give myself a bit of a buffer for low-reading days.
When I wrote up an article on manga for beginning readers, here’s what I wrote for this series (which is on my recommendation list):
The primary draw for this series is the low unique vocabulary count. Some readers will find the content too simple to be engaging, whereas others will find it enjoyable because they can understand it easily.
The preview on BookWalker covers the first 33 pages, which is all of chapter 1 and about half of chapter 2.

Daily reading done
Oops, forgot to update yesterday. Had a massive day of driving north and didn’t end up with much reading time as I was packing and hiking and driving and tidying and unpacking all day. I read for a bit while waiting for a dinner order to arrive, and didn’t quite finish Ch5. Finished that just now and will likely do more before the the morning is out. Not sure how many WK users are from the USA, but happy 4th July if you are! It’s a gorgeous day where I am

Watched totoro some more but still haven’t finished the movie
I also tried reading the bunrpo passages in vertical and I must say…its scary 
My brain couldn’t process this for a minute and only after remembering that these are N5 passages that I tried a sentence and was able to read the rest How do you all process this ? I really am not used to this…
Why don’t I know about these things before I watch something ? 
No worries though…I shall read this when I clear my backlog…it will definitely clear out…
I haven’t read any physical manga yet…will probably buy in bulk when I feel ready to tackle my favourite series 
Busy prepping for a dinner party so read just a few pages (intro to よつばと Chap. 41) in order not to break my streak.

Read another 12 pages of ふらいんぐうぃっち to finish off chapter 3. Every now and then a sentence will pop up that I’ll understand without lookups and it feels really nice! But mostly I’m becoming more aware that I want to start to build a habit of studying a little grammar each day now that I know that I’m capable of keeping up with reading, and also that I genuinely enjoy the challenge It’s all just like a big puzzle really, I just need more clues now!
Even though I just said that I’m enjoying the challenge, I also really connected with this drawing today
it’s surprisingly elegant when you get used to it
right now i’d be horrified to see novel text laid out horizontally

Finished reading! For some reason I imagined きつねちゃん with purple hair so getting to the end and seeing the end book cover showing きつねちゃん with orange-brown hair (like a real fox, go figure) was really jarring ahaha
