And more Loopers. It’s fun to read the VN and look at the old book club threads!

September 30th!
Chapter 2 of ダンジョン飯 today - I was relieved to see that the rest of the chapters in the volume aren’t as long as the first one was, so hopefully it wont be as hard for me to keep up with the club as I was anticipating it would be.

End of challenge Summary: 100% :tada:

Books Completed

  • Fullmetal Alchemist - Volume 1
  • Usuzumi no Hate - Volume 1
  • Sousou no Frieren - Volume 2

It’s been a busy, and often hard, three months, so I’m proud of myself for being able to keep up with reading every day.

I’m also happy that I’ve been consistent with pushing myself by reading stuff that I find difficult instead of always just letting myself read material that is in my comfort range. The IMC has been a huge help to me with this, because I’m always more motivated to read when I’m not alone (…I am secretly hoping the next IMC pick is something I don’t want to read though, because I don’t think I can take on any more bookclubs right now without my poor little brain exploding )

Of course my biggest motivator to keep reading continues to be this challenge. Thanks as always to @DIO-Berry for organizing, and to everyone here for reading, posting and always being a positive force. I’m glad to be here with you all.

Time for the Fall Challenge!

I start new book. I really like the cover, looks promising. The amount of stars received on natively also looks promising. WAKUWAKU

End of challenge summary

Over the past 3 months I’ve finished 9 books of Honzuki light novel (17-25). That’s 3473 pages. I get the impression I spend more time reading now that I’ve graduated and entered full time job, even tho I had more free time as a student…? fushigi da ne

I’m proud of my august month of completing 4 books, hihi :3 :sparkles:

Today is the end of the extended summer reading challenge. I’ve managed to keep my reading streak. I started 俺物語 3 this month but I didn’t manage to finish it. I’ve reached near the end of the last chapter, though. This volume was a bit more dialogue-heavy than the last volume which is why I couldn’t breeze through the volume. Also, there were a couple days here and there where I just read 1 or 2 pages just to keep the streak. (After all, it’s my birthday month. I didn’t want to see blank spots for my birthday month.) Next challenge, it would be three years since I started the ‘read everyday’ challenges. I’ve managed to participate in every one since I started and now with this challenge completed, I have a 1 year, 1 month streak. How long can I keep the streak going? Only time will tell.

30/9 5 pages 約束のネバーランド

Last couple of days - 2 good days of reading (not working) and a bad one when I was, got home and couldn’t concentrate on anything.

I tried to read シャドウハウス but couldn’t focus well, so actually yesterday includes re-reading the end of the last volume and starting to read the next, but I need to go over that today.

Oof, well, I actually forgot this challenge had ended. I dropped off pretty hard in August - I think it was a combination of starting work, encountering burnout with learning (too much at once), trying to maintain my previous hobbies, all while doing almost 60-hour work weeks in September.

Notes for the next challenge:

  1. My contract ends in November, so I will have more time.
  2. Don’t do too much: I was trying to read, make Anki decks, study multiple Anki decks, and speedrun my WK. I’ll probably hold off on making Anki decks - trying to learn words without first knowing the kanji was an uphill, demotivating struggle lol. If anything, reading probably helps me learn more because I’ll see important words come up repeatedly. Writing them down by hand doesn’t hurt, either, so I’ll stick to that.
  3. Don’t force too much reading: I was trying to read more than one chapter a day otherwise it “didn’t count.” I can go a little easier on myself and read a sentence on low days, multiple chapters only when I have energy. And - it’s ok to not read at all, so long as I don’t lose myself altogether.

Overall, it was a great Japanese immersion exercise. In total, I read through half of the challenge, which is more than I can say I did last year. I hope I can do more next time, even if I just beat my record by one day. :sob:
