Saturday was a bit of a write off reading wise, only managed about 5 mins before bed and I was just too tired to do anymore.
Sunday though, definitely made up for it. Completed this week’s reading of 鋼, spent about 2 hours throughout the day playing 13 Sentinels, and then about 20 mins in bed re-reading the first pages of ブルーロック Vol 5 as I want to make a decent dint into that this week.
finished the author’s note at the end of parasyte (which was actually pretty entertaining), and finally went back on bravely default! three of the mourning words from the later wk levels turned up which was neat.
words that stood out
軽快 - light (movements), nimble, light-hearted, recovery
鎖帷子 - chain mail (かたびら was in kana)
提督 - admiral, commodore
希釈 - dilution
Read Chap. 33 of よつばと! today, and thus ends my free-read of Vol. 5. This chapter is SO CUTE. It reminds me of my own childhood summer beach visits…
I love these books so much. I know this will be no surprise to anyone who’s read them; they’re so funny, so finely observed, so perfectly quirky in the writing and the visual rhythm. I’m happy I have so many more volumes ahead of me.
Classes start tomorrow! I’m going to try hard to maintain my reading streak until the end of August. Tomorrow I go back to the beginning of the volume to re-freeread and then dictionary-read each chapter. I don’t anticipate finishing the whole volume before the end of August but I will see how far I can get…
3500 characters from Island today too. Today I was able to read a few sentences without looking up anything. It’s still not easy, not at all, but I can feel it getting a little easier the more I read. This challenge, and forcing me to read every day, has really made a big difference!
Haven’t read any manga or books today, but I Might Have Accidentally Added 100+ New Anki Cards Today to then watch Kuro no Sumika: Chronus with subs, it was mostly reading so i guess it counts haha
I Do Not Regret My Decision. beautiful little story
I finished ルリドラゴン last week! I’m hoping to eventually pick up the second volume once it releases! I also read a bit of となりのロボット, 玉藻の恋, and started 少女終末旅行 1.
I asked Gumshoe (sorry, 糸鋸啓介刑事) one question and got back like 12 words I didn’t know, mostly about 御剣怜士検事. Probably going to be slow going for a while…
Read a bunch more 押しかけギャル、think I just have some omake to take care of, then not sure what’s next - something chill probably, considering my other reading load.
Another hour on 13 Sentinels and chapters 32 and 33 of Bluelock finished yesterday.
Thoughts on 13 Sentinels so far
I’m about 5 hours into the game and enjoying it so far, though I’m still in the tutorial phase and it looks like it’s introducing the 7 main characters chapter by chapter.
The section I played last night was probably the hardest to understand of any I’ve done yet, and the game itself seems to ramping up in terms of explaining what is happening story wise.
I am currently unsure whether the game itself is intentionally a little confusing at this part or if it’s because I’m not fully understanding all dialogue Though I feel I am definitely following the main plot. Perhaps it’s my fault for choosing a time travelling/War of the Worlds-esque game as my first one to playthrough in Japanese, but I’m invested now lol.
finally done with the edo book. do not recommend. the map and timeline in the front and back are both great but the rest of the book doesn’t even remotely make up for it. anyway onto smth else! spent the rest of my time filling in forms unrelated to jp.
2800 characters from Island today, to the end of a scene. I have so many other VNs that I want to read too, so I’m kind of looking forward to when I’m done with Island and can start another VN. Preferably a shorter one!
Fun chapters, that’s what I like. They were about magic and the revelation of the fact that praying to gods will increase your magic affinity. Now ローゼマイン almost can’t stop her overflowing magic, it’s almost like a broken tap. Time for early sleep

Got to the part where they’re cramming a dozen “just learn the modern Japanese translation and you’ll be fiiiiine” auxiliaries into half a dozen pages. So I only read two pages, but it got me four grammar points’ worth of Anki cards
