Book thoughts: シャルロッテ talking and giving accurate reports to her mom makes me feel like she’s more mature than her older brother. Meanwhile ハルトムート is a ローゼマイン maniac as always. Now that he is going to take フェルディナンド’s position as the 神官長, I know he’s supposed to support ローゼマイン, but… can he really support her? It’s different because he doesn’t know her backstory. フェルディナンド… I can’t believe he’s leaving 
The illustration at the beginning of the book shows a moment between ローゼマイン and フェルディナンド and it looks like a farewell moment… やだよ

I feel like the amount of lookups is closely related to the x amount of k characters I’ve read, it’s kinda funny. Yesterday I had 60 lookups with 68.9k characters read and the day before it was 12 lookups through 11.2k characters.

Almost didn’t get any reading done today, but as bedtime approached I felt sad about breaking my streak, so I did finally read another chapter of よつばと！: Chap. 29, Vol. 5. In this chapter, Yotsuba helps the neighbours with the housework; it might be the cutest chapter of all so far. Her battle with the showerhead cracked me up.
A few days ago I watched this video on why よつばと！is an ideal resource for learning elementary Japanese, and found it convincing:

Been a little busy this weekend so Japanese suffered, on the worst day I only did about 3000 characters in Umineko. No good! Kinda busy weekend coming too, will be doing what I can. Today I did the week’s Trails in the Sky FC club section and figured it’s about time I wrap up おいしいごはんが食べられますように, so I went from 70% to as of writing this, 87%. Maybe I’ll squeeze in a bit more later.
You know, people seem to rather enjoy that series so I’ve been considering starting some day… I don’t think I need to ask if you like it based on the posts I’ve seen, haha. I really don’t need another longform reading project, but…

Free-read p. 60-73 of よつばと！ Vol. 5 today. I was just going to read a couple of pages, but once やんださん showed up, I had to keep reading to figure out what the hell was going on (a grown man forcing his way into a child’s home by distracting her with candy is NOT what I expect from よつばと…I thought I must be misunderstanding something important). Once Dad confirms that Yanda is indeed a 悪い奴, I was relieved that his bad behaviour was not going to be glossed over (as ジャンボ’s sometimes is…)

Now that you mention it, I first started reading Honzuki in 2020 exactly 4 years ago when we started the ABC. It really is a longform project, I ended up taking a break last year to focus on other series, mainly Kusuriya. Not only are there many books (31 or 32 now I think?), but they’re also thicc. (Amazon and bookmeter is hopeless for page counting, so) I’m keeping track of pages so far:
It looks like a lot (and it is!), but the story is split up into arcs which makes for good spots for taking breaks to read other stuff :3

I’m also including previous readings, from when I started reading, after starting WaniKani, and before writing my home post on this topic 
July 25th (Thursday) to August 4th (Sunday):
Starting on July 25th, I read 1 article from NHK Web Easy every day, choosing the topics that seemed easiest (from July and August), regardless of the date, to get used to reading the site. In addition, I read several tadoku books, “level start” and “level 0”, which are simpler. I also read some free episodes of Satori, to get to know the reader, and I really liked it, so I plan to subscribe to the paid version soon.
August 5th (Monday) to August 11th (Sunday):
Daily reading of 2 NHK Easy articles, published on the same day. In addition, 1 tadoku book level 1 (minimum). On days when there are no new articles, I read 2 tadoku books (minimum). Note: NHK Easy publishes 4 new articles only on weekdays (occasionally only 3). On weekends and holidays, there is no publication.
August 12th (Monday):
National holiday in Japan (山の日), so there were no new articles on NHK Easy, and I read 2 tadoku books.
August 13th (Tuesday):
I read 2 NHK Easy articles and 1 tadoku book.

Mostly wanted to respond, but while I’m here, didn’t read too heavily today (6k or so characters of Umineko) cause I’ve been busy and tired, but yesterday I in fact finished the rest of おいしいごはんが食べられますように ! It was… alright. I’m kinda mixed on it. Difficulty is odd too with how long and rambling, slightly stream of consciousness sentences can be, which kept me on my toes. But then the vocabulary, outside of lots of references to foods I didn’t know, was quite easy.
Thank you! Much appreciate the info. Maybe I will take it on sometime with the intent of tackling one arc and then seeing how I feel. Just, I want to get to more Sci;Adv VNs sometime, and I’m a little ways into Umineko’s staggering 2 and a quarter million characters. And if I want to stick with the Trails series of videogames I joined the club for the first of, that’s also a several game long series… it’s always like this, haha.
