I thought there were only 2 chapters left of Frieren, but it was 3. I finished though! And started the next BBC pick. Manga with no furigana reminds me to do my WK reviews…
edo book is going very slowly. i don’t know if it’s me and i’m just not in the headspace for it or it is actually difficult but i’m trying bravely default is going better at least.
words that stood out
bravely default:
微塵 - particle, atom, not in the least (as 微塵も~ない). sure i’ve come across this before but it doesn’t stick and let me tell you 塵 does not look great on a 3ds screen
興る - to rise, to flourish
言いくるめる - to deceive (with words), to explain away, to talk into
Because I’m lazy I will make a post for the last two days. I downloaded Zenless Zone Zero and played it a bit in japanese. Like you would expect the language is not that easy. I just played the game without looking anything up and still understood the main points.
Played a little Ciel no Surge but nothing interesting happened just some tutorials.
Last in the last two days I finished the whole Luminous Avenger X-2 game in japanese. It’s an action game therefore there wasn’t that much to read but it was still fun playing it in japanese. They story was neigher good nor bad, but I didn’t play it for the story I like the art style and the characters. Both Lola and Kohaku are so cute. Difficulty was somewhere between N3 and N4 all lines are voiced in the game.
Work has been keeping me busy this week so struggled to find the time to sit down with the light novel. But still keeping on top of reading the manga. Look ups of unknown words have been very brief so I will likely go back through some of these chapters and take note of any common ones when I get time.
Still doing tiny reads of Umineko because the words pile up hard; I got 66 mined after a little over 4000 characters so time to move on. I might have to start continuing Umi past the point where I can’t mine more for the day to make real progress on it, but for now I’m gonna keep going this way for a bit, just using the extra time for other things, and see if what I’m grabbing actually starts to recur. Umi sprawls so much I’m not even sure if it will any time soon, though. There are various idioms and fancy kanji I’ve never seen, but also everyone is still discussing business and economics so that’s a whole area of vocab I’ve avoided up to now.
Finished the last chapter before the epilogue. Also managed to survive a day at work. My symptoms of lightheadedness and headache tend to peak during the morning, so I’ve been drinking tons of water and snacking on salty crackers between each patient. I’m glad it was effective and that I didn’t pass out, haha. I’m back!
(Though I have weekend now, haha. I’m glad I got at least one day of work in or I would’ve gone crazy from being sick, bored and feeling guilty after a whole week of just staying at home. いい気分転換だったわ)
Chapter of ダン飯10, maybe my single favourite chapter in the entire series and surprisingly not too difficult in JPN (though it is more of an action chapter, so perhaps I should have expected that). It’s chapter 65 if you’re also reading, so look forward to that one.
Another chapter of ふつうの軽音部, will probably read another tonight.
I’ve been feeling the urge to go back to 日本へようこそエルフさん so I will probably do that soon. Trying to get back in the spirit of reading what I want to read (not that I don’t want to read my book club reads, ダン飯 or ふつうの軽音部, but sometimes you do feel like you’re doing more ‘project’ reads than just chillin’)
managed 4 pages of the edo book this time! was still really tired after that tho. somehow bravely default has become my easiest read now, who would’ve guessed
words that stood out
bravely default:
土着 - indigenous, native
奉る - to offer, to do humbly, to revere at a distance
plus two new kanji with the fire radical:
灼熱 - becoming red-hot, scorching heat, passionate
焙る - to warm, to dry, to toast to grill, to scorch
Once again a tiny, 4000ish character read of Umineko because the stream of new words is absolutely crazy. Learning things like 横領 (おうりょう, embezzlement). The really special one though was 犬猿の仲 (けんえんのなか), on very bad terms. It’s “like cats and dogs” except instead, like dogs and monkeys. I didn’t know they had such a strained relationship!
Playing lots of SMT5, and anything important is usually fine for me to understand, plus a lot of the incidental stuff is fine too, but sometimes… well, what in the world is this? The first image has a few fancy words but I understand it, but on text box 2 he totally loses me.
