Read the last two entries = complete!
This was an interesting collection of… thoughts? I’m not sure what to call them 
They weren’t stories but each one was a musing that came about from looking at Buddha statues and then he goes on big tangents about spiritualism. I get the feeling that when he left Europe and came to Japan he really started to dislike Western values. As a lot of what he writes pitches West vs. East and science vs. spirituality.
茶碗の中
Amusing little folktale about a samurai who finds a ghost in his cup of tea. Hearn adds a foreword and a postword to this explaining that it is a really old folktale but the ending is missing and has never been found. He adds that it is up to the reader to determine what happens next.
男子の本懐
Next is another diary entry one were Hearn meets an old student and they reminisce.

I defeated 7 metal slimes before one fled today—and in fact that was the only one! I got 10/11. Although not a single one counted for the armamentalist unlock quest (defeat a metal slime after erecting a Wizard Ward). I’ve just been sticking with my usual strategy (my one concession having Botts use a normal attack instead of Pressure Pointer, not that it’s ever procced yet) and hoping Milly would be the one to deal the final blow, but no such luck. Honestly, I may just get everyone Wizard Ward—that way, it doesn’t matter who kills it. Only need 8 levels in mage.
Oh my gosh. I decided to kill two birds with one stone with the lv-15 minstrel quest (Egg On companions to 100 tension 5 times) and the gladiator unlock quest (kill 5 slimes with Dragon Slash while at 100 tension) and went to Angel Falls since there’s no danger of the slimes there forming into slime stacks. I had Botts cast ラリホー on them since they can’t flee if they’re asleep, but there was one slime where it just would not work… until the spell went haywire on the 3rd or 4th turn lmao. It’s like his frustration over it not taking made it work
Anyway, reached the next continent today! Very close to unlocking grottoes (though I likely won’t be able to defeat even Equinox yet), and only two more bosses to go to get my own ship

Goodness I’m so wiped out this week that I just had a super tiny reading session. I got hung up on a crucial sentence and had to sort it out, then I was nodding off so I’ve just called it an evening.
This weekend I’d like to focus on some grammar. I really need to work my way through N4 'cause I think it’s going to make my reading a lot smoother. I’ll certainly be reading as well, but perhaps not as much as I would otherwise. In any case my schedule is normalizing again post-vacation, so I’m getting back into my routine.
