I have completed my first read Japanese every day challenge!
This is the most reading I’ve done in Japanese ever, which is pretty exciting, and I did literally read something every day even if it was just a page. Totals below!

I might add some more thoughts later, but right now I need to walk the dog and give my eyes a rest.
What an end to the challenge! Like I half-expected, sleepy, low energy today, so very little reading. I watched/listened to a lot of stuff to make up for it, no bother.
Thank you all for posting/lurking along! It’s been a good challenge, it’s felt very active with other people posting I think. Merci beaucoup to @DIO-Berry for hosting. I’ve read a lot.
On top of that, I finished ひぐらしのなく頃に鬼隠し編, and a whole load of manga, which if I have time tomorrow, I’ll put here below so that I have it all in one place.
But yeah, I’ve read a lot of Japanese. I’ve read the worst book so far (世界から猫), the best book in Japanese by a mile so far (赤と青とエスキース), and the hardest (風立ちぬ and 六人の嘘つき).
That’s all. See you in a few weeks for Summer challenge (probably) after I’m done with N2!
A bit of a slow month this month, but I’ve had a lot of busy weekends, I’m busy at work and also had an assignment to write this month which sucked up a lot of my brain power.
I also started reading a novel, which has slowed down my progress a little since its so much more dense in text.
I’m happy with my progress, and proud of myself for staying consistent even when I’m exhausted!
Thanks as always to @DIO-Berry for hosting, and to everyone for their inspirational posts!
See you all tomorrow for the Summer Challenge!
Snake update
I think I underestimated how fast he would grow!
He’s over a meter long so far, so I think he’ll probably be close to three meters long by the end of the year, unless my reading habits change.
Ahhh, I didn’t think this series would end after 4 volumes TuT. I really enjoyed it! I would recommend this series if you like romance. The art is so pretty.
Summary: End of Spring Challenge
I don’t usually count days read/unread. But for curiosity: 69 days of 91. 21 days of no reading. Huh That was unexpected. (Now I’m curious about previous challenges)
How many books did I finish? 9 novels.
引きこもり令嬢は話のわかる聖獣番 5-7, Silent Witch 9, 薬屋のひとりごと 12-16. Also read 23% of Saikawa & Moe 10 (890 pages * 0,23 = 204 pages)
And 4 volumes of the manga series I finished today.
Highlights:
・I feel like I’ve made a breakthrough being able to read Kusuriya (Lv 37) with ease. Now I’m reading this series at the speed of about 35 pages/hour. [1]
・I finished a 408-page book (Kusuriya 14) during the 24h Summer Readathon.
・I doze off easily while reading especially in the evening when tired. I have a new view on 5-10 min naps, they can be good. Short naps are not enemy, they actually fren~
Goals forward:
・Ideally finish at least one book per week.
・Measure my reading speed in character/hour. I think I was reading the Honzuki series late last year at 12-15k chara/h.
・Continue taking time of reading sessions. I feel like it helps me stay focused on task. I tend to stop timer if I’m taking a break whether it be getting out of my chair or leaving the book tab on my computer.
I wonder if book 1 is objectively tougher than the rest of the series (at least my memory of struggling through it with the book club is still fresh) or if the slope just feels steeper at the start of series (which is usually what it is) because of unknown vocab/grammar. Wait, I read book 1 back in 2022. That’s like… 90 books ago! lmaooo ↩︎
home post
well, i joined late, but my month of the spring challenge is over
i read a chapter of Card Captor Sakura most days, six during the readathon, totaling 7.5 volumes, plus an extra chapter before i started keeping track
not too bad, considering i had originally intended on following along with the book club
it would have been torture to read, what, a page a day?
on to the summer challenge~!
i’ll definitely finish the whole series before the end, but i have no idea what to pick up next…
not sure i’ll have the funds to invest in a whole other series, lol
edit:
actually, if i’m only on the 8th and there are 28 total…
meaning i’ve read 31 chapters (so even with the readathon, i only read 31 in as many days??) out of 112, if clear card continues the same way
i’ll actually be reading all through july and august, and much of september
i’ll try to read a bunch during the next readathon, but i guess i won’t be running out any time soon
June 30
Last day of this challenge, and 15 months of reading Japanese every day. Some days just 5 minutes, other days 5 hours. During this challenge I started another VN, SeaBed, and it took up most of my reading time. I also started too many books, not being able to finish them. For the summer challenge I want to actually finish some books! I had a lot of fun though, which is the main thing.
Finishing this challenge with a few pages of 霧島くんは普通じゃない. See you in the Summer challenge thread!
Continued to read minimal amounts during the road trip, then a bit more once in UK. My flights weren’t great for reading as they were mostly overnight with a day time stopover in Shanghai. This is where I’d normally be catching up when flying home.
I’ve now fallen back behind on the dictionary (from being nearly caught up, I’m about 3 weeks behind!). Manga aren’t too bad, then one book is ok, one is 2 weeks behind, and one I’ve failed to start…
A few days ago I finished the first volume of Zelda Four Swords (4つの剣), and am currently reading the second! All the Zelda manga are so nostalgic for me hehe, I love them.
Great job to everyone who took part in the challenge!!
So I managed to finish 生徒会役員共 2 in time and keep my streak. However, it’s become difficult lately to keep up my reading practice because I have other books I want to read and I’m procrastinating doing my work. So I will break the streak after this day. I may not do the next challenge at all. Or I may jump in the middle. We’ll see how it goes. またね~
Well this seems the same as in the anime, from what I remember of the EN subtitles.
わからない。
Hrm.
I expected “It’s you” to not be in here, but I’m still disappointed. And I’m pretty sure that a lot of people wouldn’t have made the “if running=love and running=Haiji, then Haiji=love” connection, too, or else would have simply brushed it off. I mean, there are people who think YoI isn’t gay. But even if she’d kept this the same, the book still could have been really good if she’d just. not put in any romance at all. Don’t make it not-gay by making it straight (and with a pointless love polygon, at that… Please leave it out. All of it. Entirely.), make it not gay by simply removing the romance element! -sigh- かぜつよ is one of those few where the anime is better than the original media. I mean, yeah, it’s still got that pointless love triangle involving family members that Miura seems to love so much, but it’s not as bad, and Hana actually sees the twins as separate people.
I probably should have picked up an Amakawa Natsuki novel, what with the streak of bad luck I’ve had (including in EN), but I will if I don’t end up liking 疾風に恋をする. At least this one’s short, if I don’t—only 204 pages.
