Yeah, I spent a good portion of today playing MoW or trying to work on a BG3 fic where Adrian’s dream guardian looks like Mantides and he thinks he looks familiar like they knew each other in a different life (tho ofc still doesn’t trust him as far as he could throw him, which would, uh, be zero. Mantides is a big guy and Adrian is built more for agility than power). (Predictably I got farther in the game than the fic.) So yeah I only read one section again today.
・10 pages of 不機嫌な青春, leaving off on pg 122
I feel so sorry for Hitsugi. He’s happy that Iori sees him as a plaything, because while he may not see him as an autonomous person, that’s still better than hating him or thinking he’s creepy. He’s never had anyone not think he’s creepy before :( This poor kid
chugging along with everything. met almost the full main cast in 風 and 島耕作 has now dived into a full storyline about stocks. joy… edit: i actually read a couple more pages of 風 while waiting at the hairdressers but i’ll probably have to skim over them again tomorrow so i’ll not add them to my count
Rather than a scroll this next part is about a really cool little wooden shrine to Buddha from the Kamakura era that is highly detailed with scenes of paradise and hell.
Busy busy day. Very happy with how much I’m being able to get done even on the busy, ill, unmotivated days recently. Maybe positive knock-on effect of reading challenge a week ago is that I’m better at carving out time to read now.
アフターダーク keeps flicking between two different converging storylines in alternating sections. One set I really really like, the other is pretty dry. Ups and downs, swings and roundabouts.
spend lots of time outside today, but still managed around one hour of ゆるキャン△. I think I am done soon, too. But it seems this game should be played two time anyway, since there is some stuff one would be missing otherwise I think? Not sure though. If I have the time, maybe I will start “New Game +” if it comes to it.
Almost three chapters. It was hilarious when Monica’s cover almost blew up because of her ex teacher. I like her new friends. It looks like she’ll manage to become better with people eventually. Chess part was hard to believe, but oh well. I like this part better overall, which is great!
Decided to continue with 四つ子 as an ‘easy-ish’ project read because I need to chill for a bit lol. Maybe I can get through 5,000 characters a day or so
Not sure what next for the manga front but might move to a 2 (continuing) 1 (new) model next since reading in series already familiar to me seems more productive and enjoyable.
So overall my Japan trip was not great for reading - not much travel time, and tired from exploring. I caught up with a few items on the way back and I think with a bit of effort I’ll be up to date on all my manga by this weekend. The books and dictionary on the other hand may take a bit longer.
Heavily frontloaded novel reading today. Very much enjoying アフターダーク so pushed through to finish it, then got hit with post-finishing blues and didn’t read much for the next 5 hours or so till pushing through conan.
Liked this novel a lot. No single moment big emotional upswell moment, just very nice to read language-wise, and lots of thinking. Number (I’ve lost count)… 6? of the challenge? maybe? 7? Need to go update home post and check
(edit - number 8, really lost count lol)
Next 2 days might be a bit slower. I’ll probably try to push through all of the final week’s reading for 六人の噓つきな大学生 on saturday, but that’ll be a whole-day thing, because there’s a lot left and it’s slow, and I want to do it the justice it deserves.
This next scroll is about another monk who willing travels to hell but this time it takes place in the Heian period and the monk is summoned by the lord of hell himself and given a sight-seeing tour of hell.
