Even with just the two novels, lots of reading today. 六人 part was very very long, and took a lot of time. It was great though. Next Saturday it’ll be done! Don’t know what I’ll do with myself…
Finished 思い出! The ending was very good, best part of the book by a mile. Rescued it from the earlier stages.
Now, I need to get back to reading 変な絵 and アフターダーク. Also, I’ve got some manga to get through. Might start off with 名探偵 5 tomorrow.
Yeah I think you’re right. My experience mainly consists of stuff like Pokemon and general kids’ games and Persona so I guess they’ll have an outsized amount compared to more adult games. There always seems to be characters which use Katakana for effect at least in quite a few of them, though. From what I’ve seen, older RPGs without kanji might have more katakana

Went to bed pretty late last night so only had chance to read a few pages.
Now I have 17 hours playtime of ゆるキャン△, look at me becoming fluent in no time!

but apparently the time in standby is added to the real playtime in the game 
have to be careful to always close the game when I am done now. But anyway, about one hour playtime today and it’s really cute and wholesome. Also the voice over is really convenient sometimes.
Finished Chapter 81 and Chapter 82 of デスノート 
11th may 
mostly infinite wealth tbh, i finished chapter 9. as is traditional at around this point in a yakuza game, everything has spectacularly gone to shit. also i think i’m finally, more than two thirds of the way through the plot and almost 80(!) hours in, about to unlock the final two party members.

It’s been a while 
Lately I haven’t been reading at all. Both because my favorite streamer got addicted to Core Keeper while I’ve been addicted to watching him play and because I gave up on the series I was reading. I can’t believe I kept up with 7 books of it. No more. 
So, I started Silent Witch 9, the latest volume. And what a relief it is to read something I actually enjoy again, it’s like a breath of fresh air. (Why do I feel like I’ve been released from a toxic relationship? 
) Spent two good hours reading today :3 やったぜ！

Oops completely forgot to post yesterday.
- Week’s reading of Bocchi yesterday. Suspect this vol will be the end of the season two anime, or maybe a bit further.
- Started the final essay in the reader. Surprisingly it’s a bit easier to understand than the previous essays - i guess writing style (and use of words for which you have familiarity) is a big part of it. It’s still quite difficult though (this one is about the nuances of translated a specific Japanese term about literature so it’s using words i don’t understand in English and French, of all things) so I’m feeling okay just reading bit by bit.
- Finished 妄想先生, it’s a bit more difficult than I would like for truly casual reading, but will probably pick it up on sale at some point because I think it’s fairly entertaining.

小渝之森 第21话（上）12th may
a bit more 風が強く吹いている, i’m still getting used to the style. lots of metaphors. also the main character’s name is 走 which means occasionally you get sentences like 走は走る which is fun. randomiser spat out a shima kousaku manga, so i’m trying that. i have vol 1 of 4 different series (two are spinoffs, none follow on from one another) so i’m fully expecting to be lost here. also there’s explicit R18 art in there, which was unexpected

Eh day in general. Slept appalingly so going to bed early to nip that in the bud. That being said, really liked this bit of アフターダーク, and it felt much much easier than the stretch before it. Started the next volume of 名探偵 finally, also good. So much more vocab feels approachable compared to last time, which was a few months ago now to be fair.
A few discoveries today. One is that my school library actually has quite a lot of books I want to read, thanks to having the last few years’ worth of 本屋大賞 nominees, amongst other stuff. For now I’ve got book no.4 in the コーヒーが冷めないうちに series, which is like 100 pages shorter than the last one, so that’ll be quick hopefully. One more is how cheap the trial of kindle unlimited is, so I got a few months trial for like 99 yen. If I don’t use it that much it’s not that big a deal, but there’s a few books which are only in Tankobon and which my library doesn’t have which I want to read, like this one. Finally, one more is that in this year of our lord 2025, the bookshop on the outskirts of town which I’ve barely been to has a very extensive physical manga rental service for a very reasonable price. Who would have guessed? So probably at some point in the next few weeks I’ll go get like 10 volumes of something I really want to binge like コナン or スラムダンク out for 1000 yen, and binge them all in a week or so. It has to be something which isn’t too hard and that I really want to binge for it to be worth it, though.

The subtitle of the book says ‘Hell in Japanese art’ but this next collection of scrolls is from 14th Century China. Though it was part of a cultural art exchange between China and Japan back then, and it went on to influence Japanese artists.
Thankfully the Japanese text is still Japanese and not now Chinese.

Well it’s not as bad as I thought.
Iori’s mother only pulled out one of Hitsugi’s fingernails, not all of them on that hand. But it’s probably only because he passed out after that first one, and he’ll only project while conscious. It can’t exactly serve as a lesson to Iori if he can’t feel it. Although the best that Iori can express the sensation he experienced is 「強烈な“熱い,”」 but since it only lasted a second (until Hitsugi passed out), his only takeaway is, “Eh, it’s not that bad. Hitsugi and Yabuta are just crybabies and totally overreacting.” (After Hitsugi fainted, Yabuta scooped him up and fled with tears in his eyes.)
It makes sense that Iori doesn’t understand that pain can prevent someone from using that part of their body normally or at all since none of his own injuries have ever gone beyond the extent that it’s only pain preventing one from using something (as opposed to, say, nerve damage). Since he can’t feel pain, there’s never been anything stopping him from operating as normal with an injury. And Hitsugi’s presumably been given pain meds which have kicked in already, since all Iori is getting is the “硬い” of the freezing cold of the ice pack on his finger, so Iori likely doesn’t understand that pain can persist (and debilitate) beyond the moment of injury. But instead of accepting that pain can reduce other people’s ability to function, even if he can’t personally understand it, he just persists with his calloused attitude and dismisses/looks down on Hitsugi.
Oh gods. Iori called the Wii a retro game system. I feel old now. This was written in 2012. Was it set in the future? Is the Wii really that old? Is he just a 13-y.o. who thinks everything and everyone is old? (I mean, Suzuka’s only 4 years older than him, and he calls her ババァ. Hopefully not to her face, but he does call her グズ香 to her face…) Is the Wii actually that old???
