I had a very busy April, with several friends visiting in a row, so I didn’t have a lot of time to read, let alone to publish my status here. But I’m back and ready to get back on track!
To make things easier for myself, I ticked day I read in the calendar, and here I’ll just update my overall status for all these days.
逆転裁判 (Ace Attorney) : 2h35m
I finished the case! I was really surprized that in order to solve it I had to get a hint from the soul of my dead boss. Maybe I’m not that good an attorney.

Binged it during the weekend, caught up with the book club and barely started the current week.

Caught up with the book club and finished the current week! I think that I’ll continue reading further after the book club is finished. It is an easy read, I hope that it’ll help me to get back to a good pace.
29th april
two shorter chapters of masquerade. i was wondering if nitta’s pride problem was going to be addressed and i’m glad it is! also other manga read is going on pause cos the whole of berserk is free to read over golden week (on LINE manga which is an awful reader but we persevere) so i’m gonna see how far i can get. read all of vol 2.
also started this n1 vocab book in prep to take the exam in december. the furigana is underneath each word, but other than that it’s very helpful so far. comes with listening practice audio too.

Onto the next section, which introduces the 仮名書き絵入り往生要集 (commonly known as just 往生要集 (おうじょうようしゅう)) a Buddhist text written in 985 by the monk 源信 (げんしん).
The chunk book doesn’t go into detail about the rest of 往生要集 as it’s all about Buddhist practices and sutras about rebirth and the pure land, but it is known for it’s extensive descriptions of the hell realms. Which then influenced lots of artworks depicting these realms, the ones so far are black and white depictions from the 1840s.

Finished book! Book number 4 of the month/challenge. It took a month and a half due to taking a break from it (and it being the longest volume I’ve read of anything yet, at 500 bloody pages…), but I liked it throughout, and it kept me engaged. The mystery element was good, and I like the writing style. I’ve bought the next book in the series, so I’ll get to that at somepoint soonish.
Also read some more of other 2 novels. 君がくれた is nice and easy, as expected for what’s basically light novel teen fiction stuff. 思い出 also easy but feels less flowy at the moment. Might end up finishing 君がくれた next due to it being easier to pour time into.
Finally, also did a quite long session of ひぐらし. This part is AMAZING. Really, really good. It had me genuinely start worrying about people crawling in through my window, I got all a bit paranoid for a while. However, this part is loooong long long. It’s been I think over 2 hours in this chapter, and maybe 30k characters already. I think I’m nearing the end, and the end of the whole episode isn’t far away after that, I think. Really liking it, but I will still take a break after 鬼隠し for just a little bit, I think.
Finally finally, despite all my complaining about the last few weeks not being great for novel reading, Natively tells me that I’ve just hit 1292 pages this month, making it finally above February as highest monthly total yet! There’s still 1 more day left, so 1300 here we come (probably 1350).

I decided this would be my next Day Off read as it’s the easiest thing I own according to natively. And I spent 3 hours this morning being a functional adult so I decided I’d read that and I can always read properly this evening if I’m still 元気.
Anyway about the actual manga, I wonder if the level is a little low? There’s no dialogue so it’s a lot easier in that regard, but like there were a couple text messages in this chapter which were handwriting with no furigana, but they also weren’t essential for understanding the story.
Either way it was a fun chapter.

Finished Chapter 79 of デスノート 
With this, I finished Volume 9.
Today’s chapter felt quite difficult for some reason. Also, according to Mokuro, reading this volume took me 9 hours, which is a new record. Not sure if it’s because I’m getting better, or if it’s because that Volume was just easier in general.

Been meaning to post for a few days. Went well earlier in the week. I read a reasonable amount on my days off but failed to actually start packing, which was a bad idea given I worked till 2am last night and am flying to Japan today. Now packed and at (first) airport after 4 hours sleep. Left a couple of betrayed looking cats at home (the lack of packing means I think they hadn’t realised I was leaving).
Manga-wise I think I’m going ok, am now 1 week behind on the advanced dictionary, and have a few other clubs which started at the weekend

I had intended to read at least a little bit of all the books I have started—well, the ones that I keep on my bed, at any rate—but that didn’t exactly happen, though I did read from 5/7 of them—including the one I started today, because starting a new book is definitely what I needed to do. (こころ has kept popping into my head these past few days and wouldn’t leave me alone, though, so I can hardly be blamed.)

・6 pages of こころ, reading through part 1 ch 2 and leaving off on pg 12

There’s quite a bit of difference between the Japanese and English at times, one part (in English) stated that people who speak ‘Evil Words’ end up in this certain layer of hell, whereas the Japanese specified that ‘Evil Words’ meant lying, cursing others and such things.
There’s even a special place in these many layers of hell for the evil doers who commit the dastardly deed of watering down sake and selling it. 
30th april
another two chapters of masquerade cos the first one was very short. read all of vol 3 of berserk in one go (which was uh emotionally draining, do not recommend) and then turns out you can only read the rest of the chapters in-app which isn’t an option for me. bummer. back to mononobe tomorrow.
