  • しょげ返(かえ)る = to be dispirited. Like 悄気込(しょげこ)む. Completely 悄気(しょげ)る.
  • 諧謔(かいぎゃく) = joke; humor. Hmm? Playful / ドS with reverse 誹諧(はいかい) (= 俳諧(はいかい))?
  • ご母堂(ぼどう) = another person’s mother
  • ご芳名(ほうめい) = your (partner-in-speaking’s) reputable name. First Kanji is 芳(かんば)しい / 芳香(ほうこう).

10.000 characters from Island :desert_island: today. Getting close to the end of the second route and getting ready to start the third route. Really enjoying it! And it feels easier now than in the beginning too. It’s still way too difficult, and I can’t read much without Textractor and Google translate, but once in a while, I can read a sentence or two. Once in a while I understand a sentence without looking up anything. I’m glad that there are so many VNs to read! For now at least, I have found the perfect medium for me.

  • Finished 四つ子. I really, really enjoyed reading this for two reasons: it’s probably the first book I felt like I ‘casually’ read, and I estimate I probably had something like a 80-90% comprehension rate (would be lower without instant lookups, but still). Right in my strike zone of difficulty. Really simple sentences but still complex emotions can still be expressed. Very high rec for beginner novel readers. (The main difficulty funnily enough might be one character speaks entirely in Kansai-ben, which other people seem to have more of an an issue with.)
  • Finished 擬似ハーレム6 and thus the whole series. Cute but a bit more difficult than you would expect given the rating. Curiously I find most of the difficulty comes from the comic panelling, though I do think the two leads also speak a bit more casually than you would think.

I filled out 97% of part 1 of the encyclopedia(pokedex), upgraded my cauldron so I can make more than one potion at a time, and went to explore the new area a bit more. I only stopped because I’m hungry and need real life sustenance to continue.

21.000 characters from Island :desert_island: today. 50-60 pages in a normal book. Yikes! I was unable to put it down. I was able to finish the route I was working on. Tomorrow I’ll start a new route. I can’t wait!

Well, last week went ok, but I’m hoping to use this weekend to catch up further. I didn’t finish last week’s reading of Spy Family yet but otherwise all manga are up to date. However I’m starting 2 new ones today :anguished: with the IMC plus とんがり帽子 offshoot.

I’ve decided to drop しろくまカフェ - it’s not taking too much time but not finding it particularly entertaining.

All novels are about one week behind roughly. I’m hoping to finish また,同じ夢を見ていた with the club which is this week I think! Then catch up the other two.

Dictionary remains a steady 2 weeks behind, but at least I’m not falling further behind.

  • 常日頃(つねひごろ) = at all time. 常(つね)に + 日頃(ひごろ)の行(おこな)い.
  • せせる = to pick (tooth). With 爪楊枝(つまようじ). Just an old fashioned word, otherwise just 突(つつ)く.
  • おちゃっぴい = chattering precocious girl. From お茶挽(ちゃひ)き and written with お茶(ちゃ)っぴい in context.
    • Like 茶目(ちゃめ)っ気(け) + お喋(しゃべ)り.
  • 中座(ちゅうざ) = leaving one’s seat. Not like 上座(かみざ) (top seat of honor) nor 下座(しもざ) (lesser seat).
  • 搗(つ)く = to pound (mochi; rice hull). Making is 餅搗(もちつ)き.
  • 目(め)を凝(こ)らす = to stare at. Like 凝視(ぎょうし).
  • 鋭角(えいかく) = acute angle. Obtuse is 鈍角(どんかく) and right is 直角(ちょっかく).
  • 四隅(よすみ) = four corners
  • 漢籍(かんせき) = Chinese books. Chinese classics in narrow meaning.
  • 協調性(きょうちょうせい) = spirit of cooperation
