Forgot to update this yesterday (morning shifts…).
Week’s reading for Witch Hat 1
Casually doing some Yuru Camp 2. I always find this series is a bit deceptively difficult… it seems like it’ll be easy but they talk a lot despite the big vast gulfs of silence and there’s a lot of words you’ll mostly only see in relation to camping. Oh well, just gonna のんびり through it over time I guess…
I hope it’s okay to celebrate this here even though it’s for a textbook rather than a novel or manga or something. I did not realize that the final 10% of this book was just the appendix, so I very unexpectedly finished the N2 500問 workbook today in the middle of my lunch I’ve been working on my first pass-through for months now, since Jan 29th, and it feels kind of empty to not have a new page of this waiting for me Time to start back at the beginning!
I didn’t have time to continue either my manga or novel today but I’m excited to keep reading tomorrow.
was kind of at a loss of what to read next, but felt like reading 日本人の知らない日本語 which is a manga essay by a japanese teacher teaching foreign language students in japan. it’s pretty entertaining so far and very informative as a learner! the actual style is pretty easy to follow (in the text and the panels) but some of the content can be kinda high level which makes it harder.
A few pages from Super Cub and about 1000 characters from Island. I’m glad that it’s easy to use my Kindle to look up vocab from Super Cub and 10ten to look up vocab from Island. Both of them are way above my level, but armed with a dictionary I can read anything!
Finished dissecting the last two pages of フリーレン and read some of this bilingual book I have as well. I’m finding at the moment that I like the idea of having read books more than I like the idea of actually putting effort into reading books.
Today’s reading is thanks to the train. Had an errand, met up with a classmate and took the train back together, so didn’t read any on the way back home.
Also totally unrelated, but I thought I had conquered my social anxiety. Turns out I’ve just been doing pretty well for long enough in my everyday life that I forgot what having crippling social anxiety was like. I’m actually still super awkward, lmao.
It’s like the boundary of my comfort zone has expanded. The fields that were once frozen over have slowly melted and it’s possible for me to walk into meadows filled with sun. However, the new plateau in front of me is still frozen. Mada mada da nee
I’m apparently book mad this week, as I read chapter 1 of 本好きの下剋上第一部2 (the junior novel this time, rather than the manga) across the last two days. Compared to セーラー服と機関銃、it’s feeling pretty easy so I’m making it through a novel at my fastest pace in Japanese now.
1 chapter of DunMeshi on the train. As usual difficult but rewarding. I realised I’m 40 chapters in now! (Okay, i’ve finished 39, but who’s counting). Having read it before a few times in English is a big help, but it still feels good to be able to parse large blocks of text relatively easily (and then run headlong into a roadblock because of some ‘simple’ word you don’t know yet, but whatever).
Last few days have been very poor efforts, finding it hard to concentrate. But my holiday starts today, so I’m posting now to draw a line under that! I always read better when I’m flying lots. These are mostly short flights but still should get more done.
I’m behind on almost everything, up to 5 weeks on a couple of clubs, but I have a plan!
Now that 500問 is finished, I also added the Try! N2 textbook into my daily study. So far I really like the multitude of question types they provide instead of exclusively using standard multiple choice.
I didn’t quite make it through the next chapter of Atelier but I did manage a few pages of Suzume! The novelization is beautifully done so far, I can really feel the dreaminess in some scenes
I’m done with my readings for the week, but it’s also because I’ve been quite invested in both せーラー服と機関銃 and ハリー・ポッターと賢者の石, they just make me want to read one more page and then get to the end of the chapter!
Today I finished アオハライド volume 9 and started volume 10! I still have 4 volumes left, but it feels like the fluffy high school romance is now reaching its climax.
had an unexpectedly productive day and finished the rest of 日本人の知らない日本語! an interesting read, there was a bunch of fun linguistic trivia in there with history mixed in and bits of the stories of her and her classroom were very relatable as a learner asdfghjkl there’s apparently three more, so i might give those a read at some point, if and when my 積読 pile gets to a reasonable size…
today’s nhk article was this one, plus the entries on とうとう and とともに in aDoIJG
