Fatal Twelve (16.3k characters)

Updating early since I’m not sure I’ll have time later. I might not be able to read much tomorrow either, we’ll see.

Funny that since I started Muv-Luv I haven’t had the chance to continue it yet . Luckily it was only 9k characters that I read, and I have it fresh, but it’s funny that right after I started it as my most ambitious project I haven’t been able to touch it since, what with the club reads and not having time other days. I probably should’ve started it once 9-nine- is done, but it’s fine, I don’t mind going slowly with it for a bit for now, even if that means barely advancing it atm xD . I want to though, but optimising my schedule these past couple of weeks has taken priority, and I’m glad because I have more energy and productive time now compared to before. Proper sleep is the best, you all.

Haven’t been able to read anything (Japanese or otherwise) for a while, happy to be back. Let’s take it slow.

Tadoku book - かぼちゃん日本(にほん)の秋(あき)へ
Short and sweet, a little story about a little pumpkin’s adventure in fall. For all that it’s only five pages it’s a bit of a step up in difficulty compared to the level zero tadoku books.

Day 43! Splatoon event weekend has kept me a little more distant from posting, but I’m still getting my reading done! Took this longer assignment of Fatal Twelve (27k characters) in two days, 15k and 12k. I’m happy to say it was generally easier; part of that may be about what was happening compared to last week, but I also think my brief experience with the book I complained about made the sentences feel shorter and more manageable. I’m excited to see how Fatal Twelve feels by the final weeks.

Finally picked manga back up and finished volume 1 of Ponkotsu Ponko, that was pretty cute. Gonna move on to 2. It’s just a pain to buy manga so frequently now that I can finish it quicker . I’m lucky VNs give SO much content for the money.

I’m nearing the end of Pikmin 4, and there’s generally less reading to do now that it’s late game, but there was so much more throughout than I expected, so that was cool. Excellent game! Debating maybe picking up Master Detective Archives: Rain Code next since I liked Danganronpa a lot. That one is essentially just another visual novel I’d be adding when I’m already balancing so many things to read, but I do feel very in the mood for it…

24 pages of ガールズ・ブルー, finishing ch 2 and starting ch 3 海に還る犬, leaving off on pg 184. To absolutely no one’s surprise, I spent more time trying to write gay fanfic for this than actually reading it lmao. I also wanna write something with both Kisaragi/Mao and Mutsuki/Riho because I think it would be funny if the older siblings dated each other and the younger siblings dated each other, but I’ve got no ideas so far. And hardly any idea how to write Mutsuki since he hasn’t even properly shown up yet…

So Mao’s the kind of dork that would give a kitten the same name as his sister and Kisaragi’s the kind of dork that would give a female puppy the male version of the mother’s name lmao

I’m happy Mao’s joining the group on their beach trip, but I’m a little worried about the dog. It would probably be natural causes, she’s old, but I still don’t want the dog to die and this is definitely a book that would do it…

レズる [ラ五] to engage in lesbian sexual activity. I kinda find it hilarious that there’s a verb version, especially when there doesn’t seem to be one of ゲイ (or ホモ, for that matter).

Back to work for real today! Not completely healed but enough to last full shifts. Also means I will have a bit less time for reading again though Really wasn’t feeling up to march today, since the chapters coming up are pretty rough emotionally.

Back from vacation. I spent more time reading than I planned, but each year I forget just how weak-skinned I am and I didn’t move much after the first few days of getting sunburnt.

I’m also hella self-conscious about reading manga in public so I reserved to reading just text. I’ve read almost as much in 4 days vacation as I did in ~1 month

Made a quick calculation: latest chapter of the WN I’m reading: 210 sentences. Last chapter of the manga I’m reading: ~20 sentences. While バガボンド is not a dialogue heavy story, it’s still surprising to see that a single chapter of WN is 10x a manga chapter. The averages are probably closer to 6-7x, but sentences in the WN tend to be long-winded whereas manga is filled with a lot of sound effects / word-only “sentences”.

With all that in mind, novels are probably better to read for practice. I normally don’t feel as slow reading now, but by the end of my vacation I was gliding through pages which felt really nice. I have to say I bow before those crazies who can read 20-30 pages a day

I see! Well reading is awesome. I was an avid reader when I was a kid and later in my teens. University broke the streak and took me until now to come back. Having my life more or less figured it out helps to have more time, but a full 9 to 5 job and a family makes things a bit trick to spend the whole day reading

I was pretty much the same. As soon as I learned to read, I took to it like a duck takes to water, as my dad put it, and then just didn’t stop for years. I was always carrying at least one book around with me at school. College put a big dent in it, but I didn’t entirely stop until afterward. I got hit real bad with depression (like, scary bad, not because of suicide or anything, that still didn’t get past the ideation phase, but because I felt like I was just going to completely shut down. Luckily I didn’t that semester, though it felt like it came awful close a few times, but I knew it definitely would happen if I continued with the next semester, and that was terrifying. I’ve never shut down like that and I do not care to find out what it’s like, especially if it’s anything like that one time I full-on dissociated. That was years ago, and I’m doing better now, dw) that made me drop out and stop reading. And I’m not entirely sure why it made me stop since reading can be a form of escapism, but instead I just watched a bunch of TV shows instead. But after I started reading more or less every day in Japanese, that old voraciousness took over and I started reading more in English again too. (And buying books faster than I can read them, in both languages. Ay.)
