I read 16 pages of Yotsuba today! Yotsuba gives me a fright every single time

not quite a full section of 逆転検事(ぎゃくてんけんじ) today cos it was extremely long (i don’t think i’m even halfway through) but i finally met kay and shi-long so that made up for it! even if shi-long’s speech is the hardest for me to read so far; i’ll think i’ve got him figured out and then he’ll drop one of his little made up sayings, or a zen buddhist specific term, and i’m lost again ah well

words that stood out: 監禁(かんきん) (confinement), 裁(さば)きの庭(にわ) (court of law) cos it’s fun, and 不覚(ふかく) (failure, defeat, blunder; unconsciousness) as part of 不覚を取る (to suffer an embarrassing defeat) which i think was a pun cos edgeworth (who says this about himself) was actually unconscious during what he was referring to.

Monkeys!¡

Finally finished up 〆百合. The ending kind of jumped the shark a little bit but overall it was still very fun and I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys yuri SOL/romance to give it a try, the novels are neither long nor particularly difficult.

Also started going back to Monkeys!¡ again after an impromptu break and enjoyed myself a bit more than I used to, I was definitely getting fatigued from the nonstop barrage of jokes so maybe reading it slowly really is the way to go lmao…

Word of the Day: 出(で)る杭(くい)は打(う)たれる - the nail that sticks out gets hammered down; people that stick out too much get punished. Pretty easy to understand with an almost identical adage in English.

While I’m still having fun reading Tobira, the exercises are boring/bothersome. I want to start doing Genki textbook stuff again, so I’m pushing all bookclub stuff to the weekend.

That means I get to read other things again! I’m looking forward to it.

Flying Witch : chapter 3

Updating now since I don’t think I’ll read again tonight. I read one chapter of Flying Witch while I was airing Kiro. This one had a bit more unknown vocabulary, but I’m hoping reading through the book club thread will impart some of the details I missed. Nothing major though since I was prepared for the character who speaks such a deep dialect that it basically incomprehensible.

And I will soon share some Kiro pictures since I haven’t in quite a while. I’ve been sneaking pictures of him when I can, but as I’ve mentioned in other challenge threads, he’s very good at noticing when I’m doing stuff so he’ll get out of cute sleeping positions or stop playing with his toys when he notice me going for the phone.

On the other hand, I have a kitty that is very intoned to me (and I to him), so we have a really close bond.

Also, because it is pretty muddy out right now, with snow melting and the ground all soft, I always wash his feet when we get inside so he doesn’t track mud everywhere, and today he was okay with it more or less. He’s such a weird cat that doesn’t mind getting wet, so he’s beginning to accept being washed too. xD

かがみの孤城, 71-100%

Aaaand, done! I won’t comment on how many pages I read today, but it’s certainly a record for me. And it wasn’t because I couldn’t wait to see what happened next, but because I wanted to be finally done with the book.

It wasn’t bad. But it wasn’t for me. I felt it had structure and rhythm issues, and it was way too sentimental for my taste. The audiobook with its overly expressive voices (so much crying!) and sentimental music didn’t help either. Maybe if I had read it with the voices in my head instead it would have felt a little better, but not by much.

I read just a bit of the Vampire Hunter D book. The book is pretty hard there are lots of rarer kanji used.

I didn’t really understand today’s seasons.

JoJolands was interesting though! This chapter isn’t very text heavy and I only didn’t know a few words, so that was nice. Also I suspect the cat is not a cat or at the very least it’s a stand user. I’m really hoping Rohan uses Heaven’s Door on it. I think too that the diamond is one of those physical stands like Boingo’s book or the cable tower in Part 4. I also appreciated the minor touches like Rohan having a bunch of Bakin photos on his ipad with no screen lock and that Izumi takes care of Bakin when he travels.

Not sure I had weird dreams, but I did have weird sleep and felt so crusty allergy-wise when I woke up. I’m not sure if Ultra Jump had a bunch of warehouse dust on it or what because I haven’t kept my windows open.

Also I’m wondering if JJLz will have 1-2 more chapters because the last one was about 50 pages I think and the first was about 70, so it should be fairly close to the first volume now. Also it seems like Crazy Diamond’s Demonic Heartbreak is wrapping up completely in 2 more chapters. I can’t say I’m sad to see it go. The logic of it frankly didn’t fit with the Parts before or after although I did enjoy the new Dio illustrations. It’s getting a novel too, so idk if that’ll be the same plot or a continuation. I wonder if Araki’s cover illustration is to fit in with the trend for most (all??) of the other novels or to slight the other mangaka for trying to overwrite the canon plot.

My order with 気になってる人が男じゃなかった shipped today! Still too soon for an estimate of when it’ll arrive, but I’m excited.

• アタック!! vol 8. I think I finally have block out vs shut out down. In a block out, the ball hits the block and goes out, and it’s the attacking team’s point. In a shut out, the ball hits the block and goes in, and it’s the defending team’s point. They both sound like the same thing to me so I’ve been having trouble lol
• 12 pages of 四畳半神話大系, leaving off on pg 66. Caught up with this week’s reading!
• 10 pages of 透き通った風が吹いて, leaving off on pg 82. I feel like this has gotten easier to read. It took me less than 40 minutes to read those 10 pages. I feel like I can finish this if not this month, then next month.
