I was just gonna say something like noooo Kansai-ben is chasing me - canβt get away from it! 
Such irony Iβd come to read this exact part after complaining about that
But yeah so I made it through chapter 8 β that was the plan but I got distracted lol half of chapter 8 today
(And the Kansai-ben was slightly less horrible/terrifying as in the other book )
And I learned a lot more than I expected 
I have not ever seen (or at least realized) or heard of abbreviated kanji (β¦and it really makes me want to dig deep into itβ¦ one thing I love about learning Japanese - you can totally derail and spend whole days on it (though it will have to wait bc Iβve got plans for today )
β¦ also I guess that was the first time I actually read through (some of) the book club thread - and it made me wanna read through all of it and kinda feel guilty for not having done so before because it made me realize thereβs (probably) so much more I could learn from it (e.g. abbreviated kanji - kinda wanna thank here/for that, again)
