Radical for spikes

Did they just change the radical for spikes? Have I gone crazy? I can swear it wasn’t like this 7 hours ago?

Was this not the old one or am I suffering from mandela effect x9000

Thank you for the confirmation =)

Whut, yeah that’s definitely different!

It’s just a bit taller now. Like in 並 it’s very tall compared to 業. I wouldn’t say that it’s completely different since some kanji tend to bend the parts a bit.
The new look might even communicate the stroke order better.

Yeah, it’s just taller.

This radical you’ve drawn:

is “triceratops” with “ground” underneath. “Spikes” always had five strokes.

(And more to the point, it’s now the actual Unicode character rather than an image.)

Well spotted! There’s a little more information in this update. “Spikes” isn’t the only radical we changed to a unicode character, but it’s definitely the most noticeable.

Wow - that really threw me off just now during my reviews

My reaction was like: if I dont remember ever seeing this before and now am to master it only - what chance do I stand at WK overall?

So frustrating because I was at the review that would have burned it when I saw the change for the first time :')))

Yeah, they have been waiting for you to get there so they could roll out the change :grinning:

I understand your frustration but at the end of the day learning kanji/Japanese is a long journey. A burned item doesn’t mean anything more or less in terms of your Japanese knowledge. At least now you have a reason to remember spikes as the radical/kanji that was changed ^ - ^
