Hey, sorry for the delay! Welcome to the race. I got you added. Kitsunensei just made the table for the race and isn’t actually involved in the thread, so please @ me next time!
Hey!! I know you posted a week ago, but I just got back to the forum myself. You had qualifiers for the Olympics recently, right? How did they go?
Hey, welcome to the race! You can set any level as your goal. I’ll set yours to 30 for now, but let me know what you’re aiming for.
Sorry it took so long to get you added. When you level, please @ me and I’ll update you until you get member status and can do it yourself!
You’re such a great cheerleader! Thanks for all your hard work!
おつかれさまです!
Feel free to adjust your goal to any level you would like to aim for!
Also, you should update yourself on the leaderboard. We have you at level 3 right now! There are instructions at the top if you need them.
Let me know if you have questions about the instructions that are at the top of the thread! I will be happy to help.
Welcome back! It’s great to see you again!
Hey @FennelFox you’re back! Did you get your Apprentice items down again?
49 apprentice, only 70 reviews tomorrow. It’s finally back to being manageable.
Now to keep it up during the Holiday break, and we’re back on the lesson horse.
I have over 3000 reviews to do if it makes you feel better! I’m just chipping away - with a PC and keyboard I can get 100 done an hour. Just need to budget that spare hour. Sometimes I just crack 50 in a spare 30 minutes on phone…
Here’s the latest - took 39 days on level 39 due to it being really busy at work and lots of Christmas events. Plus I started to forget Kanji and have a big pile of over 3000 reviews so chipped away at those…still my thoughts are do a little each day and not give up and I’ll get there…
@FennelFox I hit lvl 3! can you update me please? xD its took me 10 days, 6hrs, and 36minutes. I’m starting to understand everything slowly xD
Ah right, I did level up again. Probably the last level up from this year, but let’s see where we get!
Hahaha, that is EXACTLY what happened.
Congratulations on leveling! I’ve updated you.
Just letting everyone know that I changed the title of the thread from Race to 60!.. to Race to Your Goal! since we have so many newcomers asking if they can still join. Hopefully this won’t throw anyone off! Having folks join all the way until the end will help to keep the thread fresh and lively when inevitably people (cough like me cough) get overwhelmed or too busy and disappear for a while.
I love how welcoming and supportive everyone in this race has been to everyone else!
Keep up the good work!
So I procrastinated hard today:
I noticed that you can see every single edit for the post history of the leader board. So I scraped the whole thing to see if we can make some interesting graphs out of it:
I tried to make another graph for the level 10 leader board, but most of the entries there seem to be quite dead so I couldn’t create a graph where you can see much.
Also weird stuff is going on in the lower levels (probably a problem in my parser):
Not sure if it is actually that useful though. If anybody wants to poke around the raw data, you can find it here. Just Right Click And Save on the “Raw Data” button.
Good idea!
Me too Been on vacation mode for a couple weeks now.
So I worked on it a bit more and by now I have hopefully fixed all the parsing issues (you guys are doing some weird stuff when editing the leader board):
→ Interactive Version Here ←
You can highlight individual users by clicking on their names.
Some caveats
- Users who left the race (as in: are not in the current version of the leader board) are omitted
- I also had to omit some of the least active users, just because if there are too many users in the plot, the whole thing comes crashing down in your browser.
- The user list is sorted by order of joining the race
- I can’t do much about some level lines reverting back to a previous level for a while, because it’s also present in the data and I don’t really want to start “guessing” correct entries, since people are also doing level resets
I’ll probably set it up so that it automatically updates the web version daily.
Hey everyone! I was planning on getting to lvl 60 before Dec JLPT next year anyway, so I added myself to the list
I’ve started studying Japanese more or less seriously since after my first trip to Japan in Spring 2018. Started WK around October 2018 and got to lvl 30 in just under a year. Then, I focused on JLPT prep and took a break from WK. Took JLPT N3 Dec 2019 and expect to pass. Next Dec I plan to take JLPT N2.
My last level-up time is totally not representative of my speed because I was taking a 75-day break from WK. But from the past experience I can maintain a 9-day per level speed, so I put that as a target speed.
My strategy:
- doing WK at least 3 times a day.
- no scripts
- lessons in the morning, reviews aligned with SRS intervals as much as possible
- try to minimize to radical lessons completed but not before doing all vocab lessons
I wish I’d also do kanji writing practice. I might add this to my goals and start practice writing my burned kanji.
