QoL features that could be added

If you don’t touch WK for a period of time (preferably have it customizable. And an option to enable/disable this.) it will automatically go on vacation mode. This will help people get back into WK when they take a break.

Maybe a max review per day feature (customizable and have this on or off.) To help make the review pile less daunting? But still have the option of doing more and a clear notice that you hit your max review limit and you’re not actually out of reviews.

That would have two benefits, help people go through a huge review pile at a steady pace. And also encourage people not to spend too much time on WK and neglect other areas of study.

Or instead of the last one maybe instead of a reset feature you can pause items past a certain level to keep reviews down? Particularly useful for people who were away for awhile (Obviously It should disable new lessons as well, while active.)

Lastly I’m mentioning this just cause why not? An option to turn on or off an undo/typo button. (Maybe with limited uses?)

Moreso throwing this out there for fun, since I know it is mentioned a lot. (I’d still like it as a feature though…)

Really not important changes but it could help retain a user base and might encourage more repeating memberships. (That’s my lame excuse of a sales pitch.)

Probably people have already suggested things like these before, especially the undo button, but hey I don’t frequent the forums. Anything else i might say/add are things I know for sure have been said ad nauseum.

I agree 100%. Vanilla Wanikani feels like it is missing alot of Qol changes. Which actually made me relay on third party apps (some people to scripts).
Not to hate on wanikani, i love this tool.
And it make me sad that is has potential to be better.

Some great suggestions.

Personally, I think it would be great to have an advanced feature that allows for manually “burning” (effectively, if not actually) items one already knows (e.g. from studying prior to WaniKani). But of course sinking kanji or vocabulary even further into one’s brain is not the end of the world.

Cheers!

I’ve always thought it would be nice to have a reverse-burn feature. Where you can take any item in your review queue and basically just put it back in the lesson deck as if you’d never seen it before. Start all over with that one. So when you get in trouble with review numbers, just put some back in the deck and re-deal them out more slowly.

I have recently started using bunpro and there I get a taste for what could be. They have many great QoL features that are just missing here…
I’d love to see WaniKani improve but so far, it’s only done so very little. So far the only meaningful improvement to me was the lesson picker, really. For everything else I have to rely on a few userscripts (dark mode, undo, heatmap, etc.)
