Chapter 18

Good chapter this week, Don and Gilda learn the truth!

I may be missing something, but I’m not sure how Don and Gilda got out of the secret room on page 29. They came in from Isabella’s room, pushing back the bookcase to find the secret door, opening the door with Isabella’s key. They then go from there down into the basement.

But they then come out of the basement and leave the secret room by another exit! I tried looking back at pictures in the previous chapter and I couldn’t spot this other exit, nor does it make sense why the room is so difficult to get in from one side but they can just slip easily out the other way!

I also had a go at trying to read the morse code in the books. It wasn’t very easy! I persuaded myself I could read this one - reading from the top left corner and going clockwise, with the dash in the “N” as a really long line. Couldn’t see the last dot on the end of the “U” though.

Spoilers for chapter 18

I went back and it seems that she has 2 rooms. Bedroom and her office. Makes sense that she has a way to slip between them but kids probably never thought that she could go from the bedroom side as she probably doesn’t use it. Can only really speculate without visual confirmation but I have to agree that it felt a bit rushed.
Edit. Volume 2 p. 171 has the room explanations

Nearly missed the writing above Don and Gilda’s heads (even thought it’s bigger than the rest of the writing in the panel…)

What a great word: serious reflection, soul-searching, penitence - they are seriously sorry!
