No more lattice?

I managed to get this screenshot on my tablet since I haven’t refreshed the page. Anyway, I can’t find the lattice in the new design. Is it gone? I liked looking at the progress to see everything I learned on WaniKani together.

Incidentally, I already saw others saying it as well, but at first, I thought that my screen wasn’t working properly because the colors looked slightly different. I guess I’ll just get used to it.

Edit: I just noticed that in the screenshot (that I took a few minutes ago) I’m level 12 but near my name on the forums it says I’m 13.

Damn I only found out that lattice existed after getting lvl 60 but I found it really neat :confused: would be sad if it didnt exist anymore

One thing I loved about this page at first glance was that it didn’t look too serious, bright colors, funny looking logos, etc

Now it has lost some of it’s flavour.

And please bring back Lattice, it was such a nice feature, maybe it’s hidden somewhere.

I’d love to see lattice back. It’s ok if it were buried somewhere in the menus because it’s not one of the most visited pages. But it was useful.

I’m freaking out about the lattice, too!!! I look at it all the time as a way to make this whole thing less overwhelming. Please bring it back! お願いします。

You can still get to them via direct link. https://www.wanikani.com/lattice/kanji/combined
You can replace “kanji” with “vocabulary” or “radicals”

You can also replace “combined” with “reading” or “meaning.” For radicals you’ll need “meaning.”

I should post this here too:
The lattices are really poor performers in respect to the server, even with caching, which is why we removed the menu options taking you there. The pages still exist (as you’ve all noticed), and we’re not planning on getting rid of that data, but we’ve isolated them a bit to reduce traffic while we work out ways to present the information better.

Thats really smart, thank you for sharing. You guys should really make a dev blog or more posts like this - its really cool to hear about all the work and improvements you do (and probably makes it harder for people to get mad at changes haha).

I think that’s a totally fair point and it’s something we’re talking about right now in the wake of the less-than-successful UI overhaul launch. We’re going to try and do a better job of keeping you guys in the loop about upcoming stuff and what to expect. :slightly_smiling_face:

@CyrusS Would it be bad faith if I made a script which added the links to the progress pages back to the menus?

No, I think that’s fine. Making a script isn’t effectively any different from using the urls to get to them, and we don’t mind you sharing those. If it ends up being an issue we may ask you to take it down, but I don’t think the traffic spike will be that bad.
