New web app for Japanese Reading Practice (and planting trees!): LingoLeaf πŸ“–πŸŒΈπŸ‚πŸŒ³

In my spare time I’ve been working on a website for Japanese learners to practice reading, with fun, engaging short stories.

:point_right: lingoleaf.io

The way it works is: you read a chapter of a story. While you’re reading it, you can click on sentences to get explanations of the grammar/vocab etc., then when you’re done you answer some comprehension questions.

It supports learning several languages (6 at the moment), but the main reason I made it was for Japanese, because I was struggling to find content to help me consolidate the kanji I was learning on WK. There are 3 difficulty levels on LingoLeaf, with the assumed kanji lists (i.e. non-furigana kanji) for each level aligned with WK levels. There’s a free trial, so you can check it out without any commitment!

I’m not planning to try and advertise it very widely or anything, but if it does make a bit of money then a chunk of it will go to planting trees, in Scotland and East Africa. Details on the site.

I’d love to hear your feedback! Let me know what you think, and feel free to ask any questions. Happy studying! :books::jp:

I notice from reading your FAQ that this content is AI generated but curated by people and the stories are relatively short. The price is pretty cheap so it’s not a terrible deal but I’m curious if you have a plan for a yearly or lifetime pricing. $30/year is cheap but I’d like to avoid monthly subscriptions where I can. I’m mildly intrigued by the Spanish demo story which features a man wearing a mirror suit. Is this the enemy of Don Quixote? Overall I hope your service can grow some. Good luck.

Thanks for checking out LingoLeaf! And great spot with the man in the mirrored suit β€” that was indeed a playful nod at the Knight of Mirrors. The story goes in quite a different direction though.

Regarding the longer term subscriptions, I’ve had this feedback from a few people and so we are going to introduce yearly subscriptions before too long. Want to grow a little bit first
