New People Questions! ~~~<3 [Lost?! Confused?! We're here to help!]

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you changed the thread title from the archived version?

Yeah, I’ve just personally never liked the word “noob” and have always felt it pretty negative.
This stems from my too-many-Korean-MMOs days… And newbie just sounds weird to me too, while I don’t feel any negative connotation from it. *shrugs*
That’s basically why.

Yeah, it got solved. Had to contact an admin though.

Yeah, I thought you would. I’m glad it got resolved, though. *thumbs up*

Hey, I realize nobody actually gave you a link where you could get more info…
So we got this announcement 4 days before the move… https://community.wanikani.com/t/Announcement-Forum-Migration/16233
Some of it is explained in the opening post. Viet answers some questions throughout the thread.
I think the main reason was to give the forums SEO so that WaniKani will get more hits overall. There was probably more to it than that, however I don’t recall any other reason being explicitly stated. Something about “easier to manage” may have also been said.

Happy reading.

Same happened to me when I first got to level 4, after I did a round of kanji the radicals started unlocking

Hey guys. I just hit level 7! (yay) but with it there is a word that uses づ instead of ず I was just curious if there is some trick to typing out づ instead of copy and pasting? I tried several methods but can’t figure it out. Thanks in advance!

Nope, they’re parts of the head/neck/top. ぶしゅ 部首

Type “du” for づ
the same for ぢ = di

Also, it’s not づ instead of ず; see

The question was in reference to why WK calls the kanji parts radicals when they aren’t (on the whole) actually 部首. They’re not used like radicals, so the name does confuse many new users.

Oops my bad. I was trying to make a funny, sorta and misunderstood

Not a Wanikani question but can’t really seem to find any better place for this. How can one add a gif in discourse? Tried even googling it but got only answers from 2015 saying that it’s been changed since.

Press the thing or drag and drop (or paste)

Both the normal upload button and drag-and-drop work for me, like any other image.
