I am progressing. Of course I’m only a mere human so it’s not as fast as @jprspereira.
I usually have around 90% of correct answers but since level 5 or so I can’t remember 100% for any batch larger than 15/20 items.
Do you people get a clean sheet from time to time or are some of you distracted just enough to miss a few kanji at every review ?
To be precise most of the failed answers are items in apprentice 2 or 3 so maybe I don’t spend enough time during the lessons and these items need the extra review.
I’m perfectly fine with my progress so far but I was wondering if this is common. Perhaps I need to be more focused while doing lessons to avoid issues in the future.
I remember having only one perfect session that was relatively long (about 75 reviews).
Usually, if it’s more 30 reviews, I’m bound to make at least one mistake
I think you should find your own pace and do your studying the way you’re most comfortable with.
I’ve already mentioned it a few times, but when I first joined WK I picked quite a good pace and everything went great up until level 30 (I guess, they call it Hell for a reason ) - then things started to go wrong. I’ve managed to more or less move forward till level 37 - then I broke and spent almost a year there. So I ended up having to do a reset
I usually have one or two failed items each review session unless it’s an all apprentice session. If you would reach 100% all the time it would mean that you are not challenging yourself enough with the amount that you are learning per day. Some people say that 90% is what you are supposed to strive for in general.
I would get 100% more often if my thumbs weren’t the same width as three keyboard keys on my phone. I’m usually a super calm and relaxed person in any situation… but not during WaniKani reviews on my phone…
Lmao same! My accuracy is way better on my desktop than on my phone. Damn these big ass thumbs.
Don’t worry about the percentage too much OP! I think it can really take a hit on your overall enjoyment. You’re still learning and improving your brain no matter what percentage you get.
I usually get 100% on my four-hour review session, assuming no older items have sneaked in there, but not always, and for longer review sessions involving a mix of items from different levels it is pretty damn rare that I don’t make at least one mistake, even if it’s just a stupid one.
I’ve read that an 85% success rate with new information is ideal for language learning. Above that, you’re probably not challenging yourself, and taking in less information than you’re capable of retaining. Of course people could argue about what the “ideal” success rate is, so I guess my point is don’t sweat it unless you’re bombing your reviews.
After you end a lesson session, make sure to review out loud all the items learned until you feel safe about knowing them all - I do this on the summary page after every lesson session;
Follow the first 2 SRS intervals (4h and 8h) the best you can - having a good start with new knowledge is important. Adding 2 extra hours to a master item isn’t significant, but adding those two same hours to a Apprentice 1 item is increasing the interval by 50%, which is a lot.
