Welcome to Week 9 of Mother 2 Club

:house: Home Thread | :video_game: Game Club

The gang’s back together again. Time to move on to yellower pastures.

There’s going to be a bit to do this week, but no boat rides!

Week 9 Jun 26th
Last Week Week 8
Start Point Walk through the sky
End Point Collect the 5th Melody
Next Week Week 10
A guide to this week šŸ–ļø šŸÆ šŸ§˜šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

There’s nothing left to do in Winters for now, so head back to the Sky Walker for another trip.

Once you land in Summers, there’s a bit to see and do.

Talk to enough people, and you’ll learn you need to take to the sea. Find the captain and speak to him. There’s a man in a house who’ll give you the number to get into the Stoic Club.

You’ll have to find a phone to call the Stoic Club before you can get in. Inside, talk to the man in the red suit, then locate the captain’s wife. There’s cake in it for you.

After that, it’ll be time for some Mu training. Training isn’t too tough, but if you find yourself having trouble with it, ignore anyone telling you to stop, and let the floating head do as he pleases.

If you speak to the captain again, he’s still not ready to give you a boat ride.

Stop by the museum instead. If you visited it before, you may recall a guard in a turbin who’d like an item that you’ll now have on hand. Be sure to answer the phone on your way out!

You still can’t take a boat, so it’s time for a mini fetch quest: visit the museum in Fourside, then Venus at the theater, and back to the theater. That’ll get you into…the sewer? (If you don’t have an Exit Mouse, you might want to grab one from Onett or Escargot Express if you have it there.)

Fight your way to the next melody, then grab the gift and find a phone to save for the week.

Busy week for me this week, so no bonus material here.

The Stoic Club members say, in the most round about way possible, absolutely nothing. Don’t worry if you don’t understand them! They use big words in the English version so I bet they use some crazy Japanese.

I still have a little more to do this week, but I went over to see what he said, and actually was able to take the boat at the point where you said this. For anyone not really using the guide in here and trying to play more blind, I just want to add there’s a little quest to do around Summers and elsewhere, but we don’t actually go to Scaraba at all this week; it actually seems like there’s a little choice for once in what you do first.

Anyway, luckily for me with the sort of rambling visual novels I’ve been reading (25th Ward right now especially) I felt very prepared for the Stoic Club, haha.

Interesting. The walkthrough said you could choose where to go next at this point, and I talked to him to confirm, and he said it was too dangerous right now. (I last talked to him right before going to Fourside.) I wonder what I missed, and if it’ll come back for me when I plan out next week.

Week 9

Summers is cute! It’s amusing how everything in the tourist trap town is intentionally overpriced, but I was happy to mostly be able to equip everyone still. The defense gains are pretty big.

I love Poo’s introduction; the meditation scene is so strange. Poo himself… sure got me familiar with the hospital! It’s going to be a pain to level him up right now with how everything is one shotting him, especially since he can’t have equipment right now. If I was playing blind there’s a possibly nasty trap: the enemies around the hieroglyph panel killed him so then we read the description sign and that was it, because Poo wasn’t alive to read it for us. It’d be pretty easy to think there’s nothing else to do there and just leave a little confused, doubly so since the game was letting us move on elsewhere.

Ended up wiping once in the sewer too because I did something dumb and let a 4 mouse group get the å…ˆåˆ¶ę”»ę’ƒ on us.They really hurt. So glad to have Paula back though; a lot of these enemies really need to be blasted with magic.

Lots of references to some large kid with a lot of money here just before us :eyes:

Week 9

I like the way Summers is divided into these 3 distinct sections of beach, resort, and town. Very strong in personality and probably my favorite town so far, Winters music aside. It did completely drain my bank account, but I say it’s cool to spend a little when you’re on vacation ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

I came very close to doing the sewers before getting Pu (I can’t call him Poo, I just can’t) because while I’d picked up the Stoic club’s number, I hadn’t thought to actively call them until trying to save before going dungeon crawling. I guess that should have been the obvious thing to do  Is this sewer boss the most horrifying looking monster so far or what though:

Oh good, I feel like half my knowledge of grammar and vocab just goes out the window when reading in full kana and thought maybe that had something to do with the struggle :joy: some of it does give that vibe of being intentionally confusing!

Jeff’s friend calling us up and asking us directly for the player name kind of blew my mind, and in the roman alphabet no less! I thought, oh no the game is keeping track of how much I let Jeff die (a lot) and also my region somehow. But no, it’s got to be hard coded. What a gag to pull for an SFC game. I’m curious why it asks for a romaji name in particular.

Shoutout to that guy that just says ぷーこー or something.

I’m not done with this week yet, but enjoying it!!

My brother (who has played this before) was watching me, and I told him

ā€œwhen does poo show up! I want him in my party :((ā€œ and then lo aND BEHOLD, like 10 minutes later haha!

So yayyy, the gang’s all here :DD

I totally didn’t end up going there by mistake only to realize I wasn’t where I was supposed to be like those few other times no no way I wouldn’t do such a thing

(I do enjoy checking in with the guide though! I just have a preference of coming back to it a few times as I go along is all)

This was a fun week with Summers and getting the gang all together now! Even though I’m a little late and we’re onto next week, I feel like it’s a good thing because I had a busy week

Say cheese sandwich!

Me too man, me too (It felt like I reread most of the lines in here up to 5 times)

THIS LAND IS A TRICK GET ME OUTTA HERE

This game keeps on giving, I wasn’t expecting that mediation sequence to go like that at all. I would’ve put some strong gear on Poo but I couldn’t find any gains, and when I did try, his stats went down lmao. My issue wasn’t his defense, but rather his offense, he ended up doing 1 damage a lot of the time so I just ended up guarding or using PSI most of the time and he just happened to stay out of harms way

I also don’t think I’ve mentioned it before, but I’m curious about some songs from Super Smash Bros. Melee too, I recognized the Fourside song quickly (and it’s cool the stage is set in the nighttime like Moonside) but Onett’s theme sounded completely different. Perhaps we’ll hear the song in Melee later?

It’s cool how these videos got the backgrounds too, Fourside’s even got a little bit of Giant Step in it

I believe that song is actually from Mother/Earthbound Beginnings
Called ā€œBein friendsā€

Also ahh! Looking at the fourside stage now, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, I understand the stage!!
The monotoly building!! The helicopter!!
I hope I’m not the only person who is playing Earthbound for the first time and just now understanding all the references and backstory

ikr I haven’t played Melee in years and seeing all this stuff blew my mind, I didn’t even remember the monotoly building or what it meant, just the ufo lol

Meant to get around to this last week but… didn’t. Whoops. I’ve got a couple of days off work this week on Thursday and Friday so that should hopefully help me catch back up

Week 9

We are a full party now, although I’ve not figured out what ćƒ—ćƒ¼ā€™s へんしん command does. Seems to fail every time I’ve tried it so far. He seems to be doing ok without too much equipment fortunately. Cool that he can regen PP by drinking water though. And his ćƒ†ćƒ¬ćƒćƒ¼ćƒˆ is really good because it goes in a circular pattern instead of needing a big runway

ć‚µćƒžćƒ¼ć‚ŗ is a very long town, literally. Got paralysed by one of the road signs so had to trek all the way over to the hospital to get it cured. And things are expensive here, wow. I do really enjoy the music in the museums, it’s so relaxing
