There’s at least one instance of this that I’ve found so far
There’s a sign at the south of town, near the roadblock (sidenote: I love that they lampshade how they block the route of places you’re not supposed to go by saying the police just do that whenever something happens) where there’s a person in front of a sign and if you use the contextual button you always talk to them, but you can also inspect the sign
Oh I see, and given the movement is not tile based you can just hit the wrong hitbox and do the wrong action. Although seems like an exception (since there could be two characters or two thingies close to each other), I guess we have to finish the game first to make a conclusion.
Btw a question for those who used the menu on the phone, what have you tried first: “checking” it or “talking” to it?
It’s interesting they went withエナジー instead of エネルギー, iirc I heard the latter gets used in Japanese because it was based off the German pronunciation
Also I noticed that the robot you fight before this was called フランキースタイン2, and I always thought stein was したいん because of Mad Scienstein/アレヲシタイン博士 from Wario Land 3/4. And speaking of WL4/Japanese Mcdonald’s
I had a busy week but finally can read what ya’ll are saying! I probably could’ve sped up the first two sittings, I just really wanted to talk to everybody in town and absorb how everything works, I think the game’s great so far
Edit: oops I accidentally misread the stopping point and ended up playing slightly past where we’re supposed to, this whole time I thought dang I’m really far behind everybody’s finishing this week so early lol
Also some more thoughts, @VikingSchism mentioning Toby Fox got me thinking about how when you check the items they give you a little description and it reminded me of when you use items in battle in Undertale
I also went back to the character that wanted to talk to talk to Ness in private, and when I heard the song I instantly knew what one of the Deltarune chapter 3 songs was inspired by
Also also, I’m learning to play the banjo and I REALLY want to learn how to play the shop theme “Buy something, will ya!” but there’s no banjo tabs of it anywhere. I found a video of a banjo cover though, and by trying to copy it I accidentally learned a different part of the song, the part from the break near the beginning!
My guess would be that エナジー sounds more American and will be used when you want to make things sound… American. Would make sense to use in a marketing context given the association of the USA with modernity and progress and cool stuff.
I’ve been kind of absent at this point because like I mentioned in the main thread I am currently like dangerously ill but I wanted to mention.
It’s super funny to me that now I’ve forgotten this was a thing and I just put it out my mind to even pay attention and try because playing a lot of old NES/Gameboy RPGs recently has gotten me used to the items telling me nothing at all about what they are
Thanks. I haven’t bothered with another update but it’s still pretty much only getting even worse and antibiotics are not showing a single positive impact yet, but at least they are torturing me with a dozen side effects.
I’ve lost enough of my will to live without interacting with Xenogears again.
oh yeah I love that ability and the loadout with the soda cans, I’m not very good with it but I like throwing soda everywhere and I made my player name MUG MOMENT, I think I mentioned it earlier but I even named the brown dog in Mother 3 MUG
I have to admit that I’m struggling with the dialogue, probably I still don’t have enough understanding of Japanese to play it a bit more fluently and it’s a bit frustrating and slow… 頑張っています!
A little late, but I’ve finally gotten started The kana-only dialogue is a bit difficult to parse at times but it’s not as bad as I was expecting, considering there are helpful gaps after particles and conjunctions and stuff.
I named my Ness キャラ in a reverse homage of Undertale, but I don’t remember the other kids’ names well enough to rename them. Tbh I didn’t even know M2 was a source of inspiration for Toby Fox, but now that I’m playing the game the connection seems unmistakable!
The dialogue is so charming. The cops making the Guinness book of world records for road closures and Pokey’s wild battle actions are my faves for sure.
