支払期限

Loan due date, debt term

売掛債権
うりかけさいけん

築山 - artificial hill (f.e. in a garden, playground, etc.)

BTW, the reading, which is つきやま comes from the fact that the first kanji can be , which means basically the same thing as the original meaning of きずく, to heap up mud or something like that.

I think most people who have learned the kanji would be surprised by the reading initially.

Ah, I figured it’s from つく  . I was more surprised by it at first, because it had furigana above in the book and I thought it’s a name.

動揺 - trembling, shaking

It can be a name as well. myoji-yurai.net lists it as the 2503rd most common last name, with about 5,700 people having it.

ごめん

The interesting bit here is that I didn’t know about the 5th definition:

Not wanting to, wishing to avoid

E.g.

面倒に巻き込まれるのはごめんだった

Nice! I first heard 横顔 in Hitomi Tōyama’s エキゾティック横顔. It seems like there are “trend” / “mood” words that come up often in songs of that era. Another one is 黄昏たそがれ (dusk, twilight), e.g. in Mai Yamane’s たそがれ or at the start of Miyako Yoshida’s 窓 (Moment of Twilight).

In Mai Yamane’s case it’s written as たそがれ using hiragana, so it could also mean melancholia / melancholic nostalgia.

(Sorry for being slightly off-topic…黄昏 is not the most recent word I learned. But I thought if you like Taeko Ōnuki, you might find this interesting as well)

Ooooo this is very interesting, thank you!! really cool :open_mouth:
and some great songs i don’t think i’ve heard, too!

電話帳 - phone book
代理 - representative, proxy

躊躇 - hesitation, indecision (and no, this is not going into my Anki deck :joy: )

would recommend adding it together with 躊躇う both are surprisingly common ^^.

濃厚接触者 → close contact person (reading an article about rony).

I’ve always hated persimmons. Maybe because where I grew up the fruit
from mature trees was just let fall to the ground. Weird smell attracting yellow jackets

迅速 じんそく (な)形容詞 Quick rapid swift

伝書鳩 - carrier pigeon
監禁 - confinement

Also super proud of myself for being able to read way faster than I used to.

仮面舞踏会かめんぶとうかい - masquerade

無茶苦茶(むちゃくちゃ)absurd
a random word on a typing game of common words

オブラート a kind of wrapping

In the context, it was オブラートを(くる)む, but there is only オブラートを(つつ) in Goo.

Another one I found interesting was ひょんなことから.

I saw 黄昏 the other day, so I looked up to see that it could mean, the beginning of the end of glory. There is also 黄昏れる. (Looked at Goo and Wiktionary.)

Jisho isn’t really a trusted resource, unless it gives a link to look further. Also, no comment page for discussion…

Isn’t that むちゃくちゃ?

Yeah, I forgot that you can’t hit enter early lol. It was quickly recommended by the ime since I had typed it out twice recently lol

藪蛇 (やぶへび) ー short for 藪をつついて蛇を出す. “To scare out a snake by poking at the brush,” meaning to bring unnecessary trouble on one oneself.

A “woman of the night”

And not a female merchant like I foolishly assumed. :joy:
