Mickey's Study Log to End All Logs

Day 17 Progress:

Hi again, everyone! Wow… what a day. I may not have immersed myself in any content today or done any output practice, but I certainly studied a lot.

I was reintroduced to MaruMori, thanks to @JudasCaesar, and I completed the Isle of New Beginnings (Pre-N5 content) as well as completed 2 chapters of the Fledgling Forest (N5 content). Most of the concepts learned were familiar to me already, but there is a ton of vocabulary that I unlocked that I’ve never encountered before! ALSO… don’t judge me, but I finally re-memorized katakana. I’ve been neglecting it for some time - just purely been refusing to touch it. Today, I changed that, and it went pretty smoothly! The mnemonics were great, and before I knew it, I was typing away, rapid fire answering prompts in a little katakana minigame!

Now… the big question… Am I still going to use WaniKani? The answer is yes… for now. I’ve synced up WaniKani to MaruMori, so anything that I’ve studied via WK will continue to be studied here. At bare minimum, I will continue to use WK for reviews. The reason I’m not just jumping ship and restarting my journey entirely (as easy as that would be) is simply because I haven’t experienced what it’s like doing Kanji lessons on MaruMori yet. I have a hard time just learning Kanji by themselves and have found myself fond of the radicals system that WK has. I’ve heard something about “elements” over on MaruMori, but I have yet to see anything else about them. We’ll see!

Rest assured, I will still be using WaniKani’s forums as my go-to community. I love it here!

  • Immersion: Read one page from a book OR listen to 30 minutes of content OR both.

  • Output: Write 5 sentences OR practice speaking/thinking in Japanese.

Day 18 Progress:

Another day of study in the books! I completed 2 more chapters in the N5 content on MaruMori in addition to all the lessons and reviews between it and WaniKani. As far as reading goes, I’ve been trying to focus on にゃんにゃん探偵団 2 and ギャルと恐竜 1…… BUTTTT I’ve got my hands on よつばと!now, so that’s what I’m going to read later tonight. I tend to jump all over the place with content I want to read, but that’s moreso an ADHD thing and not so much a lack-of-interest-in-what-I’m-reading thing.

  • WaniKani: Do lessons and complete daily reviews cycle.

  • MaruMori: Do lessons and complete daily reviews cycle for both vocabulary and grammar.

  • Immersion: Read one page from a book OR listen to 30 minutes of content.

Susan: 嘘つき!Michaelが食べました。私はおにぎりを食べました。

Day 19 Progress:

Another day in the books! Did all my lessons and reviews on both platforms, as well as completed some more sections on MaruMori. I read a lot today actually! Read some にゃんにゃん探偵団 2 and began on the new Absolute Beginners Book Club book, ケサランなにがしとスープ屋さん 1! I look forward to actually participating in a book club vs. participating in one after it’s finished. Reading along with the book clubbers and yappin’ about it will be fun!

Day 20 Progress:

Nothing SUPER noteworthy today. I finished reading this week’s pages of ケサランなにがしとスープ屋さん 1 and posted my work. It was a lot of fun, and I think I nailed most of the sentences! The reviews on WK and MM today picked up some, and there’ll be a good chunk tomorrow. While more reviews means more time spent, I like seeing the numbers tick up. It means I’ve been consistent with my studies, and that isn’t a bad thing!

  • MaruMori: Do lessons and complete daily reviews cycle for both vocabulary and grammar.

Day 21 Progress:

Been feeling super icky today, and I didn’t sleep well, so all I’ve really done today is all my lessons and reviews between WK and MM. I simply don’t have the energy to do anything else.

Day 22 Progress:

Got all my WK and MM lessons and reviews done! Didn’t read at all or practice any output today… But I have started played Final Fantasy III along with the club here on WK. Although, I’m playing it in English, so it doesn’t reaaaaalllyyy count. ANYWAYS…
