Maybe add a couple more 口-vocab with the こう-reading?

Very minor complaint: I burned (こう) today but I had a really hard time remembering the on’yomi reading, so I had a look afterward and it turns out that out of the 19 Wanikani vocab items that use 口 only 1 uses the こう reading, the rest use くち/ぐち… Please throw in a couple more (こう) words in the early levels, after several months of learning vocab for the kanji my strategy for remembering the reading was to try to think of vocab using another reading than くち/ぐち which didn’t work for me^^; I was finally able to remember the mnemonic of Kouichi’s luscious lips but I think 2-3 more vocab would go a long way toward solidifying the こう reading. And you could probably remove a couple くち/ぐち vocab to compensate if you have to, I think we get the point on that one already.

Flipping through the words which use the こう reading on Jisho, most of them seem… fairly specialised. I feel like you’re not really gonna come across it all that much.

Got any specific words in mind?

Not at all, but I still think one or two fairly specialized words with the purpose of practicing the on-reading is better than trying to remember the on-reading without any vocab to draw on, you know? I use WK for kanji meanings and readings, not to learn only usefull vocab so it doesn’t seem like a drawback to me. But I know people complain that the vocab isn’t useful a lot so I get that it might get controversial

Really? I think 口実(こうじつ)口語(こうご)(たい))、or 口臭(こうしゅう) might be nice to learn. It looks like that reading of 臭 isn’t on WK and Jisho doesn’t indicate it’s used in common words, but it could still be good to know.

I’ll be honest that I’ve not seen a lot of these in the wild, but looking at jisho there quite a few words that do contain that reading like 口座、河口、火口、閉口、利口.

I just generally think they should add more stuff to WaniKani that has a こう reading, so of course I support this idea

You can practice it on the word you’ll unlock next level, 悪口, if you want. It’s the only word other than 人口 WK uses with that reading for that kanji.

You’re talking about the reading あっこう? I wouldn’t necessarily recommend anyone commit that to memory for 悪口. You’re highly unlikely to see it that way unless it’s in something like 悪口雑言 (あっこうぞうげん).

What about 口座? Is that a reasonably common word?

Very common and useful, yeah.

I had 口外 in my vocab pile, must have seen it somewhere.

How about 開口? Anybody who has ever touched a (real) camera should be familiar with the concept.
