Looking for online reading material without furigana

Hello!

I’d like to practice some reading, but I’m looking for simple material that doesn’t use furigana. I am incapable of ignoring furigana, so they kind of rob me of the opportunity to truly try to read kanji, making my practice less effective.

I’ve installed Yomitan so I can look things up directly in my browser, so I’d love some reading material I can read in my browser. So basically, I’m looking for any browser-based reading material without furigana. Being simple is a plus, but it’s not required. Too hard is better than too easy, at least in terms of learning!

EDIT: Thanks for all the good suggestions, it’s been really helpful!

Have you looked at Satori? You can limit furigana to words above your reading level, or even turn them off. There are pretty basic readers on there.

Wikipedia has an endless amount of articles to read on any subject you are interested in, or are already knowledgeable in, but it’s not going to be easy.

Bunpro also has a bunch of reading exercises ordered by difficulty where you can configure the furigana and you have audio recordings as well: 日本語能力試験の読み物 | Bunpro

I don’t think you need to have a paying account to access those.

Yeah, that’s what I was going to suggest as well trunky_rolling

Oh, and also, there are some great games that don’t have furigana.
For example, Unreal Life.

Final Fantasy XIV – is also something you should look at, as even the free demo version has lots of material!

This is basically the whole internet in Japanese! It would be helpful to understand what specifically you’re looking for  blogs, short story, web novels (what genre), news, how much reading experience you have / what level is your grammar (either a rough JLPT or are you familiar with Natively?) etc etc.

It’s pretty easy to remove furigana from any website!

You can save it as a bookmark, and if you make it a shortcut on your browser you can click it to turn the furigana on a webpage off. There’s no way to toggle it back on, if that comes up, but to get it back you simply reload the page.

That way any page can be furigana free

I like Meika先生’s blog! She writes beginner and intermediate versions of the same post, and you can toggle furigana off with the button at the top.

I already got as specific as I can in the original post. I’m looking for anything that matches the constraints I listed. Any genre or type of content that matches those constraints is welcome!

Oh wow, thanks! I had no idea, NHK news web easy having furigana was actually what prompted me to make this post, so being able to turn that off is a godsend!
