Quick question, my wife and my’s favorite Japanese steak house is called “Akasaka”(赤坂) which I assume is based off the district in Tokyo. Literally translated “Red Slope”
However the restaurant replaces the dirt radical 土 in “坂” with the seven radical 七. You can see it on there website here:
My question is this: Is this a real kanji, has it ever been a real kanji? I try looking it up and it always points me back to 坂. The restaurant is owned by a Korean family, did they just get it wrong, or maybe this is an old kanji that is outdated?
Because its an American restaurant? Maybe, but if you’re implying that the person lacked knowledge on how to write Kanji, I’m not sure. It seems fine to me, but admittedly I’m not the most knowledgeable when it comes to handwriting.
It does kind of feel like someone trying to mimic kanji, but I’m definitely not a calligraphy expert either. I guess this one is sort of in the same ballpark:
