Watched 名探偵コナン episodes 226 and 227 today. I guess I was understanding about 70% for each of them?
Anime spoilers
At least, I think I was understanding about that much. It was a bit hard to tell at points, given the recurring character that gets introduced in these episodes. Jodie Starling - voiced by a Japanese voice actor, who is playing an American character, who is actually fluent, but pretending to speak spectacularly awful Japanese. So what you get (at least to my ears) is a character who spends most of her early appearances speaking horrifically butchered Japanese interspersed with equally butchered English, but occasionally slips into perfect Japanese… I’ve re-watched this series multiple times now, and I never quite know how to react to her…
I have been starting to wonder if I should try to change things up every once in a while, and watch or listen to something other than コナン sometimes… I’m just not quite sure what, yet…
Another short day as I’m a little low energy after work. Continuing my search for an “easy listening” podcast and landed on Akane. Three parts to this episodes about tips for Japanese conversation, the third of which turned into a iTalki promo, so maybe not the best episode for figuring out effectiveness. My podcast reader numbers everything in the feed, but I see there’s other long podcast labelled episodes so maybe I’ll give one of them a go tomorrow.
First time ever trying a challenge on the Wanikani community, I’m hoping it goes well.
Reason for doing this challenge
Been taking Jap at school for 5 years, but only reached about the N4 Level (unofficial). My reading comprehension skills are much better than my listening or speaking skills, which is why I’m going to attempt this challenge and hopefully increase my listening comprehension/skills in general.
Plan
To watch an ep of Ace of Diamond (AoD) (anime) every day, repeating the same ep 3 times a day (alternating w/ and w/o subtitles). I chose AoD as I haven’t watched it in about 4 years and would like to recap myself on it. My alternative plan is to watch Yuyu’s Jap podcast and see what I can learn this way, but I’m planning on just listening to the podcast as a warmup before AoD.
I’ve decided to start on 12th of Jan as I just spent 7 hours of my day catching up on Wanikani that have stacked up after a 3 week holiday and I’m super duper tired.
As I mentioned above, this is my first time doing a challenge in the community and am unsure of how/what I’m usually meant to do, but I’ll keep active (hopefully) and learn from what others are doing to make this run more smoothly.
I apologize for the lengthy response, and thank you in advance for any encouragement or advice!!
Japanese Pod 101 Lower Intermediate Season 5 Episode 7
I now understand why Level 3 puts season 5 after season 6. I think this is the first podcast where I’m thinking I might need to listen to it again tomorrow!
Another tip: if you see some formatting you like but you don’t know how to type it, you can reply to the post and click the speech bubble in the top left, that will quote the entire post including it’s formatting, so you can see how it was typed out.
More of the なつめさんち mega 2024 gaming video. I have less than a half hour of it left!! And then I think they have a mega 2024 video of their art channel muahahah
1月9日 - watched 名探偵コナン episodes 228 and 229, and understood maybe 60-70% of each.
1月10日 - watched the 5th movie in the series, 名探偵コナン天国へのカウントダウン. This was a full length movie, at a little over an hour and half. When I was actually focused, I was understanding around 70%, but my attention flagged somewhere in the middle, so there were parts I basically missed entirely. I didn’t get much sleep last night, which was probably the problem… I maybe should have chosen something shorter or easier to listen to today…
