I’m literally an old man when it comes to technology, but I got it installed. Took me ten minutes to figure out I needed a browser extension lol
ohhh sorry about not explaining it further glad to hear you figured it out though!
ha no worries!! It’s cool that I came across this, thank you for making the thread!
I don’t know if anyone mentioned it yet, but I think you may have misspelled “lkhayden” in your OP, because I wasn’t able to add that user by copy and pasting. I think the first letter is a lowercase “L.” I was able to add that user by changing the first letter.
ooh lol thanks! i’m blind apparently~
sorry, @lkhayden san
No worries! I actually noticed it this morning, but totally forgot to bring it up!
Thanks @trombonekun91 for calling that out!
Aw nice, seems like a few of us are going to be reading it then
Welcome!
Just to save anyone else who wants to see a chosen profile pic on the leaderboard rather than a default generated one from some digging around on how to do it - you have to go and set an avatar here: https://en.gravatar.com/
If you use the same email as your wanikani account then the profile pic will automatically pull over.
@quimda just thought I’d let you know that my leaderboard no longer recognised you as a user, due to the username change! You should probably update the list in the original topic
ohh thank you for letting me know!
@lkhayden
congrats on reaching level 8!
Thank you! I’m aiming for completing levels between 7 and 9 days, but we’ll see if I can keep that up as I get busier with work at the end of the month!
Congrats!
I shall follow soon
Work is also getting more busy for me at the moment.
I’l try to stick to my schedule though.
Let’s climb this crazy kanji mountain together
Keep up the good pace!! Whoo!
Do any of you use KameSame? I have been using it for my Master level items and it’s been amazing for my memorization. I don’t think I’ll be forgetting any items that I get to the Master level in WaniKani because of it. I highly recommend it if you aren’t using it yet. It is essentially WaniKani in reverse where you need to produce the Kanji or vocabulary based on the the English meaning, and you can use you your API to sync up your reviews in WaniKani. You can also tell it to only show you items you have gotten to a certain level in WK. So cool!
Just thought I would throw it out there since we are cheering each other on!!!
i dont use kamesame, i use kaniwani hehe although i havent used it for a while so i have so many reviews
i just found out about kaniwani first and i think i like the design better. but i’ve heard great things about kamesame, maybe i should give it another shot
Yeah, I also use KameSame.
I like it a lot. Just as you say it helps me with the memorization too.
I just need to figure out how to best balance WaniKani, KameSame and Bunpro. Juggling with SRS systems
My focus at the moment is WaniKani.
Ha I agree!! I stopped using Bunpro in favor of an Italki teacher and Genki. Too much SRS like you said, now it’s just WaniKani, Torii, and KameSame. Multiple SRS is like juggling 4 bicycles but the bicycles are on fire and you’re actually in hell.
Yea KaniWani design is better, but I like how KameSame handles synonyms, like they won’t mark 父 wrong if they wanted お父さん. I’m not sure if KaniWani allows that as well, but I did hear it is a stickler about synonyms.
How is Italki going for you? I’ve considered it, but constantly feel like…I don’t know…like I’m not good enough yet?
Which is silly because that is why you would do it but still. Sigh xD
I’m one third through N4 on Bunpro and can recognize stuff well enough, but my production skills for speaking are abysmal.
Oh you’re definitely ahead of me in your grammar studies.
I am having so much fun working with a teacher. I think it is invaluable because if you find a good teacher, they will guide you throughout the learning process, and since you are taking the initiative to learn vocabulary and Kanji on your own, a teacher will be able to give you more context on what you are learning. Because the only thing a teacher can do with Kanji and vocabulary is say “Here, learn these 10 kanji and 30 vocabulary words by next lesson.”
My grammar and vocabulary knowledge is ahead of where we are in Genki, but we recently finished XはYです and question word drills and it’s amazing how much more you can get out of it when a native speaker is giving you comprehensible output. So, I fail and fail until I’m right and my teacher says そうです haha, and then it sticks.
Last thing, working with a native speaker also forces me to think more like a Japanese person, because I have a nasty habit of translating directly from English in my head to Japanese, so I try out sentences that I would normally say in English that are grammatically correct in Japanese but that Japanese people wouldn’t use in daily conversation. She will tell me that and say, yea just stick to よろしくお願いします instead of something I concocted in my English brain lol.
