After almost 2 years of wanikani, I was finally able to reach the goal I set out for!!! LEVEL 60!!!
I don’t have much to say (I am a long time lurker and not very active on these forums!), but I wanted to encourage everyone to keep at it and go your own pace!!!
I went pretty fast near the very beginning, but slowed down considerably towards the latter half and found it so much more fun that way! Don’t compare yourself to other people, just keep your eye on the prize and you will make it!
I was reading LNs, playing Japanese video games, reading VNs, and of course studying grammar. On top of that I had to balance my social life and my work life so I forced myself to take wanikani slow. I still need to burn my items, but next I am going to focus almost entirely on grammar and of course reading more and more. I also need to practice more listening and speaking so if anyone has suggestions for those I am all ears!
Thanks wanikani for the invaluable resource, I am out here reading VNs and LNs and it only took me 2 years to do it =P. Good luck to everyone out there, if I could do it, so could you!
Congratulations! That’s an impressive achievement and one I’ve had as a goal for a while. I made it to Level 31 a couple of years ago then took a year off due to work. Forgot more of it than I anticipated so I decided to start all over again. Am up to Level 18 and hope to finish by the end of next year. I think the key is to never give up on the reviews no matter what or else you’ll really backslide. I also am trying to take a slower approach as the levels get higher. Congrats again. I think only 2-3% of Wanikani users make it that far. Read that somewhere on another post. Does that sound right?
I have no idea the percentage but that would be crazy! I wanikani has been such a daily thing for the past 2 years that it didn’t seem like much of an accomplishment but it totally is! Thanks for your kind words!
I’m just going to keep throwing this out there… Terrace House on Netflix with the Japanese subtitles on. It’s a Japanese reality show, and they use very natural dialogue, plus it’s a lot more interesting and different formula than the typical trashy formula used in the west. A lot of the people on the show go on dates with each other and again, it’s really natural, so the kanji you’ll see will help reinforce what you’ve already learnt, plus words not even in WK! Sometimes you’ll see a kanji combination that you haven’t learnt before, but can guess the meaning like a young native speaker just by knowing the separate kanji and the context in which people use it.
