毎日 - まいにち
何日 - なんにち
同日 - どうじつ
近日 - きんじつ
休日 - きゅうじつ
先日 - せんじつ
平日 - へいじつ

I really hate 日, ik always mixed up にち - じつ

Some low level stuff.

年中 ねんじゅう
水中 すいちゅう

Any rules whether ちゅう or じゅう?

I feel your pain… I’m struggling so hard with when to use じつ and にち. Especially 毎日 always becomes まいじつ for some silly reason. I also tend to write なんじつ for 何日 sobs… When will they stick…

hmm~ make sense!! so my analogy is like concert、ticket was sold out but in other side is was full、crowded of people~

無題

im already added too、but im just curious how 「sold out」became main answer of 「満員」so im bring the topic~

im not good at explaining~ but here some clue im gathered〜

じゅう【・・・中】
usually is like period time throughout〜 (all night〜 all day long〜)

example じゅう
一日中【 いちにちじゅう】all day long
一年中【 いちねんじゅう】through the year
一晩中【 いちばんじゅう】all night long
世界中【 世界中】around the world

ちゅう【・・・中】
is more like during activity・under activity・in middle of something・currently running・now (doing something)〜

example ちゅう
開発中 【 かいはつちゅう】under development
募集中 【 ぼしゅうちゅう】now recruiting
調査中 【ちょうさちゅう】investigating

so basically ↓↓

じゅう【・・・中】 is for time・one time around measurement〜
ちゅう【・・・中】is for something like activity〜

some exception may occur like 連中「れんじゅう」but is old one、and later 「れんちゅう」is become common used〜

again〜 im not to good when it come to explain because sometimes when im understand something is very difficult to tell properly〜 but hope is help〜♪

EDIT~ im encountered 「around the world」 in random article and remembered 世界中~ so im added~

Just to let you guys know that I’ve started using KaniWani this past week and I noticed that my leeches are almost gone because of it. I didn’t do any extra work, just added KW to the tools.

So, if you wanna eliminate your leeches and you still aren’t using KW, you should. It might help a lot and it doesn’t consume as much time as WK does. If you feel a little insecure about a certain level’s vocab, you can unlock just that level on KW.

Hope it helps ^^

Oh? I’ll have to listen out for it. I don’t think I’ve heard it. I tend to hear 大切 more for “important”.

I remember being there. A few still trip me up.

… Such is life.

お大事に isn’t “important”. It’s a set phrase you say to someone when they are sick or injured. Basically “get well soon.”

With regard to the base meanings, 大事 is more like “significant” where as 大切 is more like “precious.”

So if you want to say something like “this is an important part of the recipe” it’s probably not 大切.

Ahh, I was aware of 大切 connotations, but didn’t bother to look up お大事に… thinking it was お for politeness in front of “important” and “in/to” etc… (に as a preposition). Interesting turn of phrase…

Now I wonder at the etymology behind that. (This is why I pay attention to WK’s synonyms when they have them, and Jisho and Weblio and other dictionaries when WK doesn’t have any but it’s the 3rd, 4th, etc. same English word. XD)

Thanks again.

Yay, I’m so glad it was helpful  I love those moments where something finally sticks

I know you posted this awhile ago but THANK YOU. I still get these wrong and just guess every time as the WK mnemonics are unhelpful. These visuals plus placement of where sunlight is is great.

Here’s some of my leeches that are so depressing that I’ve flat out given up and guess every time. Thus keeping them apprentice basically forever. These abstract word ones kill me.

理論
論理
議論

also, any of these pierce ones
貫通
貫徹
突貫

If anyone has good workarounds for these I’m all ears

論理 sounds a bit like lonely, so maybe try making a mnemonic with that. Or maybe just forget about efficiency and do it the foolproof way, by drilling them every day.

理論 is reason for a theory (there are none, it’s a theory), so a theory
論理 is the theory of reason(-ing), forget that, it’s logic
議論 is deliberating a theory ie an argument

There’s a lovely chapter in “How To Sound Intelligent in Japanese” (De Wolf) on 論, 理 and 説.

Wrote that back in early may (7th). Got a like on it just now, so read through it again.
Now, after restarting, when I got those again I haven’t failed them once, yay! Decided to go for mastework on 大作 (an official synonym) and so far I haven’t gotten enough confusable words =P

I did not realize that looking at the stats site and excluding whatever, was looking for leeches. I figured it was simply showing how ignorant I am. Glad to know I can change the wording now! ‘I’m not ignorant. Those are just leeches.’

I think I might finally be able to remember this. Literally came across this link, this a.m. from another topic on this site.
