Apparently there was a contest to create a new kanji this year!
The prompt of the contest was: 100年後まで残る漢字を作ってみませんか
or, Why don’t you create a kanji that will last for 100 years?
Here’s the grand prize winner!
It’s 座 but the people have to social distance…
It’s 話 but we still have to social distance…
Getting fat (太) because of the coronavirus (コロ)…
We’re meeting (会) but it’s on Zoom…
I pulled the corona themed winners, but there’s lots of more general, interesting ones there! Check it out and share your favorite! Or what new kanji would you create?
Results are at this site: https://sousaku-kanji.com/. More details are there too, but I didn’t read too much in depth (because it’s all in Japanese lol).

Ah, it took me far too long to get that one (mostly because I think I somehow managed to miss all the fuss about the Loss meme the first time it came around…).
