Congrats! You will laugh, you will cry (at your review count), you will find nice people to talk to, but most of all you will learn a lot. Go for it, all the way!

Hey I’m in the same boat!
Been studying Japanese for a year now but wanted to try something different.
Hopefully WaniKani will keep giving me the boost in motivation I need.

Fist bump.

Form steady habits and don’t overload yourself! It takes a bit to get a rhythm and schedule that works, shed what is weighing you down to keep moving forward as you go along.

The Lifetime Sale ended on January 8th, so I think you received a 50% off code. Congratulations and stick with it. The Crabigator is watching… :crabigator:

How, exactly, would one get one of those? Asking for a friend.

I got a suggestive email from kouichi

I wonder if I… I mean my friend… missed the boat by signing up for a paid subscription right after finishing level 3.

I did that too back in october. Bought lifetime now

I so wanted to do that during the sale but I couldn’t swing it this year. Hopefully next year

The best advise i heard was to not rush yourself to do it but make it like habit you can enjoy doing. otherwise you might risk lossing your passion and the motivation that got you started. I got overcomed in one of the levels. Because i was forcing my way through levels. And almost gave up. I am back on track now

I’m actually avoiding buying the lifetime sub. I feel like the fact I know I’m on a subscription is motivation to keep moving because I’ve paid for this month already so any day I skip is wasted money. Having the lifetime sub would give me more room to procrastinate because “I can always come back to it later.”

Maybe that’s just me though.

Congrats! Without WaniKani, I don’t think I could ever realistically learn kanji. I tried learning from a book at first, but WaniKani has been nonstop fun with its hilarious and memorable mnemonics, descriptions, example sentences, and genuinely friendly and supportive community.

(that sounded way more like a testimonial than I intended it to )

oh yeah, this reminds me of this graphic, i think many people are motivated in the beginning and try to go as fast as possible, then get overwhelmed by the reviews. So be careful.

This seems pretty true, my workload has now stabilized around the 20s. It’s alright for me though.
And of course you can set your own pacing by e.g. stopping lessons when you have 100+ apprentice items.
