Just a quick reminder to use keyboard shortcuts for Reviews and Lessons

Today’s PSA is: using keyboard shortcuts makes for a much smoother and faster experience!

Some additional context

I personally strive to navigate my pc via keyboard wherever and whenever I can (if I am not too lazy to use both of my hands that is). I find that my movement is just so much faster and smoother.
Using a keyboard is surely nice, but it comes at a cost though.

The slowness of a mouse comes from it being a very versatile tool:

  1. It’s very easy to use, having just 2 main input methods (right and left click) third if you also use the scrolling wheel)).
  2. There are little to no shortcuts to be memorised.
  3. It’s terribly intuitive, wherever you point you can access.

Although, Happily enough, wanikani’s shortcuts do not greatly suffer from any of the above-stated ailments !

JUST LOOK at this beauty found at the bottom-right corner of the page or by typing “?” !

Additionally:
up↑ & down↓ arrows / pg up↑ & pg down↓ to navigate the item’s Info List.

I know it might not seem much at first.. and really it ain’t.. But that’s why wanikani shortcuts are so awesome!
Realistically, It won’t significantly cut down on your time (from my experience, you can really just cram in 3 more Items this way), but

It’s so little to memorise! Much less than Hiragana or Katakana anyways.
It’s really no bother to learn - And so little to lose if you don’t like using your keyboard! And if you also happen to forget something, you can just toggle the hotkeys meniu!

Also,
Frankly, I really just use

  • “F” - Item Info,
  • up↑ & down↓ arrows
  • “J” - Audio Pronunciation
and the “left and right arrows” if I do Lessons.

That’s it!

I recently started using shortcuts in my Reviews / Lessons and I found out that I really like my experience a lot more now. It’s just sooo smooth!
Yumfull navigational goodness. B3

So, why not try, and see if wanikani’s hotkeys are for you aswell?
You may start simply by pressing F for Item info, rather than cumbersomely dragging that mouse to see what you did wrong. Your hiatus periods will thank you!
And if all of this ain’t for you, you can just go for milk, no strings attached.

Cheers!

I totally agree, the shortcuts are very useful, up until Lvl30 I used my mouse to manually click the info button of Items during Reviews, takes way longer and you also have to have your hand on the mouse. At least learning F is super useful
